Editorial Reviews

Pregnancy is a glorious time. It is filled with excitement, anticipation, and change. It can also be a very difficult time, filled with anxiousness, illness, and pain. Ann understands both sides, having been through them many times herself. Created for fellow mothers while half-way through her fifth pregnancy, Yoga for Pregnancy is a wonderful selection of yoga practices created by a loving mother who understands. There is an individual practice crafted specifically for each trimester, and the changes you are undergoing through each. Included in these segments are also very helpful poses, techniques, and tips to help your body and mind prepare for labor and for giving birth. There is also a segment dedicated to helping those suffering from morning sickness, as well as one designed to help with backache and sciatica, which can both be so common and debilitating through pregnancy. Finally, there is a brief yoga sequence designed to help relax your body and quiet your mind before you go to bed.

1st Trimester - 29 minutes
2nd Trimester - 35 minutes
3rd Trimester - 31 minutes
Morning Sickness - 15 minutes
Back Pain and Sciatica - 20 minutes
Before Bed - 12 minutes

We wish you well in your pregnancy. Namaste.

I am so glad I received Yoga for Pregnancy as a gift. I thought it would be a good way to mix up my workouts--which it is, but I was not expecting it to help so much. I definitely notice a difference between when I do the workouts and when I do not. When I do, I have more energy, sleep better, and feel more relaxed and happy in general. It feels great!

Ann provides workouts that are challenging, and at the same time, relaxing and gentle on your body. She does a great job of showing modifications that help you to build up to the full workouts or help if you are not feeling well. It works well for me if I want to push myself or if I want something easier just to motivate myself to get moving a bit. I notice a difference even if I only have time for a couple of the positions. Ann's voice is soothing and does not get annoying like voices on many other workout DVD's out there. I also like the relaxing music and backgrounds.

Ann clearly has a lot of experience with both pregnancy and yoga--which is comforting as she guides you through workouts that specifically address the needs of the trimesters and problems of pregnancy. She has a lot of empathy for what you are going through. I love how she points out the benefits and reasons for breathing techniques and poses (i.e. preventing leg cramps, aiding digestion, increasing circulation, easing back pain etc.). I did not do the workouts until the end of my terrible morning sickness and wish I would have started earlier because it really helped. I especially like how the positions work toward opening hips and getting baby into the right position in the third trimester. The workouts provide practice for breathing during labor. I am more confident about labor and plan on using some of the positions during labor.

I highly recommend this DVD; it has been extremely helpful during my pregnancy. I have already purchased another one of her DVDs and plan to purchase more.

I am getting ready to have my second baby in a few weeks and have struggled with pretty extreme morning sickness and physical pain throughout my pregnancy. Having loved the results I felt after using some of Ann's other DVDs in the past (i.e. "Yoga for Yourself," and "Yoga for Runners"), I began using this DVD during my third trimester and noticed a difference after watching it/exercising with it only a few times--namely: deeper sleep patterns, less back pain, and less intense morning sickness.

Ann's style of yoga on this DVD is not the stereotypical "folding into pretzels" style of yoga; rather, it is a sequence of calming educated yoga stretches and relaxation techniques, which felt especially appropriate for me as a pregnant woman, interested foremost in the well-being of my baby. In the DVD, Ann addresses what is and isn't appropriate yoga for each trimester of pregnancy, and she frequently relates her understanding of what pregnancy can be like for the viewer, as she has been through several pregnancies herself. For me, the fact that my pregnant body felt so great after using this DVD, and Ann's combined calming style of yoga and empathetic feelings toward her viewers made the use of this DVD a "must" regular routine for me. I can't say enough about how great Ann's "Yoga for Pregnancy" DVD is! Especially for those women who are like me and feel that pregnancy is a painful and trying time, I would highly recommend using this DVD to help; it's a natural medicinal!

I was a little disappointed in this one since these other reviewers apparently drank the Koolaid and thinks this is the best prenatal yoga DVD ever. I guess I'm used to more professional workout videos. This one, sorry, is a little distracting with the low quality, but my review is based on the actual workout so I can be fair.

At the Amazon price, I'd say overall the video is worth purchasing. In my area, prenatal yoga classes are $14 each, so why not buy the video instead? Here's what I liked:
1) You get three workouts instead of one
2) the instructor is very sincere and caring
3) the instructor explains why you're doing certain poses, which is unique and helpful
4) the poses would definitely help stretch you
5) I've not really seen some of the poses though I did Ashtanga yoga for years.

I didn't like the fact that most of it was bends, touching your toes, etc. with a little triangle pose, downward dog and warrior. I guess I'm comparing this workout to Elena Brower's DVDElement: Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga, which was very professional, a little bit more challenging, and just plain great. I can see myself doing Elena's DVD every day or at least a few times a week. I'm probably not going to use this one as much.

Overall, it's worth the purchase, but there are better videos out there.

I just got this video to start using during my 3rd trimester because I felt my other videos were too gentle (I wanted more standing poses). In that respect, this video is great. However, it does not allow much time for pelvic tilts, one of the most helpful methods I've found for keeping back pain, hip soreness & sciatica at bay during pregnancy. Also, I'm used to (and prefer) videos with one or more instructors, in a studio or nature setting, with soothing music in the background. This video has only one instructor, superimposed on a floating cloud scene. It was a little trippy at first before I got used to it. The sound on this video is also disconcerting because the 'background' music is often just as loud or louder than the soft voice of the instructor, which makes it much more difficult to follow w/ audio cues only (important when you're bending/facing away from the screen in some poses). Rating mostly based on yoga sequence, but had to lose a star for style.
