I've had chronic anxiety for almost all of my life. I've tried yoga before, but I never really "got it". I was hesitant to try another yoga DVD since most of them just didn't do it for me. I'm so glad I tried Hala Khouri's Yoga for Stress Reduction DVD! Hala's voice is soothing and the stuff that she talks about during the practice resonates with all that I'm going through. She's clear and instructs the poses really well I also really like the pace. So many yoga videos are so fast just when you get the pose they're moving on Sometimes It really feels like she's talking directly to me when she talks about how stress affects us. I've learned so much from her just in the few times I've done the workout. Not only did I find that this DVD helps me manage my anxiety, the standing poses section is a really good workout, too. I don't write a whole lot of reviews, but Hala Khouri's DVD inspired me to write this, so other people might try it and get the relief I did.

I have tried many yoga videos. Most really bugged me and I found it hard to 'drop into' a yoga state of mind. My students and friends often ask for video recommendations, but this dislike of most yoga videos has made it almost impossible. I recognize that yoga videos do provide guidance when someone can't afford classes or live in an isolated location without access to a yoga instructor. Therefore I have always stuck to recommending the basic Yoga Journal series. They are professional, clear, and safe, but a new president has been set. Hala Khouri has just released a yoga video that I am addicted to. Her presentation is authentic and heartfelt, without being cheesy. The video includes: a warm up, standing sequence, flowing sequence, cool down and two guided meditations. I have found that I can easily pick and choose the sections that best suit my needs at that very moment. As a yoga teacher I love the opportunity to be the student and trust in Hala's guidance. I would recommend this video to anyone looking to manage stress, tap into their body or just get a workout.

Hala Khouri was my first yoga teacher. Since that first class, I have met many wonderful teachers whose classes I enjoy, but Hala remains my favorite teacher. I was thrilled that she released this DVD! The DVD class is similar to her live classes, but is a bit slower-paced and is appropriate for any level of practice. All of the poses used are fairly simple and Hala provides what is probably sufficient guidance on alignment even if you haven't practiced before (however, if you're at all confused about any poses after watching the DVD, I would suggest a basic beginner's book such as "Yoga for Dummies," which will explain each pose in detail). The class is broken up into separate chapters for Warm Up, Standing Poses, Free Movement and Cool Down, so it is easy to either go through the whole class or pick just one segment for an abbreviated practice. There are also two guided meditations. The meditations are very short, but are easy to learn and easily adaptable to self-paced practice without the DVD.

What makes this DVD a "stress-reduction" class -- as opposed to a generic yoga class -- is Hala's unique approach to teaching. According to the DVD intro, the specific sequence of poses is specifically designed to "target physical symptoms that often are related to stress." While this is true, I feel that what is most important is the focus and mind set that Hala continually encourages during the practice. In my experience, stress-inducing thoughts and their related physical responses are so ingrained and strong that reminders to interrupt those tendencies are required frequently. During the yoga practice, Hala frequently reminds us to pay attention to breath, focus awareness on sensation in the body right now and to concentrate on grounding and centering.

Wow. That about sums it up. This is the most amazing yoga video I have ever done, and I have been doing a lot of yoga the past five years. I have suffered from extreme anxiety for about ten years, and being a college student doesn't help it at all! For anyone else who has suffered from anxiety like I have I would highly recommend this to you.
There are multiple sections: a warm up, standing poses, free movement, cool down, and two meditation sections. When I don't have a lot of time I do either the warm up or cool down because they are both about 15 minutes of easy stretching, and just those 15 minutes makes my stress and anxiety level completely diminish. When I want a work out I do all of the sections, because the standing poses is more challenging. Hala Khouri has an amazingly soothing voice and she talks throughout the whole video. She encourages you to let go of your perfectionism and accept who you are. If you are serious about wanting to let go of your anxiety, you should definitely try this dvd.

This is so much more than a yoga video. This is a tool to: relax, feel more alive,be more present, feel less stressed and more joyful. This video is fun, useful, great for advanced yogis or brand new students. It is for everyone, it is appropriate for children and teens. I recommend this, buy one for you and one for a friend who needs a little help de-stressing! What a blast!
