5.0 out of 5 stars If you only get 1 yoga book, make it this one!!!, February 3, 2006

This review is from: Yoga, Tantra and Meditation in Daily Life (Paperback)
This is a fantastic yoga book! It covers many different subjects relating to your Yoga practice from introductions to different types of yogic traditions to breathing, meditation, and actual yoga postures and routines. There is a section on Hatha Yoga cleansing techniques and even eye yoga. Swami Janakananda also discusses the chakras and kundalini. The last section really gets into meditation and how yoga can fit into your daily life.

Out of all the instructional yoga books I've seen this is by far the best! This is a very comprehensive book and I continually pick it up a read different sections.

Swami Janakanada is the founder of the Scandinanvian Yoga and Meditation School and you can read more about him at [...]

Swami Janakananda also has a lovely CD out for the practice of Yoga Nidra which I highly recommend. Please see my other reviews on Amazon for more information. Namaste'

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best, January 25, 2005

This review is from: Yoga, Tantra and Meditation in Daily Life (Paperback)
This was neither my first Yoga book, nor my last, but it is probably my favorite. It is a comprehensive introduction to kundalini yoga, and covers basic asanas, pranayama, and various meditation and concentration techniques. It is a very practical book, written in a clear, direct style. Swami J. offers his instruction without necessarily advocating a radical change in lifestyle (e.g., vegetarianism is not required). If I could keep only one yoga book, this would probably be the one. It presents more than enough information and exercises to keep one working for years and years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, September 1, 2006
This review is from: Yoga, Tantra and Meditation in Daily Life (Paperback)
This is a great book on introduction and overview of Yoga. It covers postures, breathing exercises, tantra, and meditation. It also covers a bit about the different chakras, although this is only an overview and not detailed explanation. Overall this is a very good book.

Swami Janakananda is a truly fine yoga teacher, devoted to preserving the Tantric traditions of his teacher, Satyananda. This book is an excellent primer on yoga and reflects that devotion. I had the privilege of learning from Swamiji at his 3 Month Sadhana course where the yoga presented herein was practiced. This is the first book I recommend to any yoga student that I assist. Namaste...

5.0 out of 5 stars the only yoga book, May 21, 2013

This is a complete book! I can understand that every single word is just necessary and sufficient in this book. If you follow the instructions, you will\may see what I mean.

This book is not only about yoga asanas, but more about the yoga as a lifestyle. It covers every aspect, and it gives a better understanding of what yoga really is.

Not every single detail of the postures is described (as it was done in Iyengar's book). I think, the writer (I should say the yogi) probably wrote the book in this way intensionally. One should learn from his\her own body. And one can learn only by practicing, and observing his\her own way of doing the practices.

I have many yoga books, and if I should choose only one of them, it would definitely be this book.
