5.0 out of 5 stars these old bones are gettin limber
I have been unable to touch my toes all of my life, "Yoga For Wimps." was recommended by a publication that I subscribe to. I have since been rewarded with a few aches, that have since led to my gaining flexibility where I thought there was not ever going to be any. This book has empowered me to work a lot harder at gaining something I never possessed to begin...

2.0 out of 5 stars Low on theory, low on production values
This book is not nearly as good as the reviews led me to believe. It has no "theory" at all, just an apparently random set of disconnected postures. The production is at the bottom end of commercial products. A number of private jokes among the participants, but not very much for a buyer.

This review is from: Yoga For Wimps: Poses for The Flexibly Impaired (Paperback)
I have been unable to touch my toes all of my life, "Yoga For Wimps." was recommended by a publication that I subscribe to. I have since been rewarded with a few aches, that have since led to my gaining flexibility where I thought there was not ever going to be any. This book has empowered me to work a lot harder at gaining something I never possessed to begin with, that being flexibility. As a 63 year old with Arthritis in my neck and spine Ms. Austin has given me insight into just how a few simple yet taxing exercises can be a very uplifting and invigorating. experience. If you possess the desire to feel better and are not afraid of a little challenge then this book will definitely give you the wherewithall to persevere your own personal goals, and I have just been getting started. IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A yoga book you will actually use!, April 21, 2000
This review is from: Yoga For Wimps: Poses for The Flexibly Impaired (Paperback)
If you are a motivated, but overstressed, time-crunched person...someone who knows you should exercise more, stretch more, take better care...this book is a blessing. It won't gather dust on your shelf next to the other books on yoga, stretching, meditation, etc.

The routines are easy to understand, easy to do, and modelled by regular folks, so you don't end up feeling like a total loser because you can't do the poses like the yoginis in other books.

To show you what you can strive for in terms of good technique, the author of the book models poses in a later chapter. But most of the book gives short, easy routines that can help you gain flexibility day by day, or treat acute problems in a hurry.

They broke a lot rules making this book. It doesn't look like most other yoga books. But the result is fresh and totally worthwhile. As a naturopathic doctor, this is one I will recommend to my patients who want to get into some healthier habits, a little bit at a time.

5.0 out of 5 stars at last, a yoga book for me, April 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Yoga For Wimps: Poses for The Flexibly Impaired (Paperback)
I've been away from yoga for 5 years, but this is the book that brought me back. It's yoga for the rest of us, yoga that doesn't make you feel entirely inadequate, yoga that my middle-aged joints say yes to. And the pictures are a treat. Real believable people showing clearly how it's done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very accesible, April 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Yoga For Wimps: Poses for The Flexibly Impaired (Paperback)
I am perhaps the least flexible person on this planet but have been interested in yoga for quite some time but had a difficult time finding books or videos that actually worked for me. This an excellent, straightforward introduction to yoga for the most inflexible of all of us, with clear illustrations (often with people wearing business suits) geared for the yoga novice. The book has color coded sections so you can pick a section and do just that series of poses or do several sections at once. A great intro to yoga and a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, an accessible Yoga book!, April 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Yoga For Wimps: Poses for The Flexibly Impaired (Paperback)
Finally, a yoga book for the rest of us. I have owned at least 15 yoga books in my now long life, and this is the first that has inspired me to practice. The poses really produce results. It is also the most handsomely designed book of its kind that I have seen.

Excellent from cover to cover. Yoga for Wimps is presented in a straight forward manner suitable for the novice or the more flexible. Either way, one is as challenged as they choose. Easily read with clean and clear photography.Has a good beat and is easy to dance to!

The book is wonderful, if only the publisher made it a book which could be laid flat, different binding

/very good instructions for those not able to do regular or more strenuous yoga poses. Especially helpful to those handicapped by age, arthritis or recovering from an illness or surgery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Yoga for real people, September 25, 2010
I hate those pretzel things that I think they use CGI to make. Worse is learning some ancient philosophy when all you want to do is yog.

This book is a great starting (and finishing) point. I am not sure I like to use chairs and ties. The next book should use beds. However, you work with what you have. This oversized book has plenty of straightforward pictures, next best thing to video. For people that are not specially orientated that is a description of what you are looking at.

My question is what is in the cup of the guy on the cover?

All kidding aside this can get addictive. So be prepared to cut out some time in your day.
