"This is yoga because this is union with the eyes," explains Meir Schneider in the introduction to Yoga for Your Eyes. Born legally blind, Schneider underwent many operations as a child but was unable to see more than light and shadow; he had to do all of his schoolwork in Braille. Today he is able to drive a car without use of glasses or contacts, after improving his sight holistically. In this video, Schneider shares his techniques, using movements that originate in two main sources: the techniques of ophthalmologist William Bates and Tibetan yoga.

To begin, Schneider instructs you to remove your contacts or glasses (how he expects you to see the screen clearly enough to follow the exercises is not explained). Then he moves on to "palming," a vision-improving exercise. The instruction is thorough, including directions on how to breathe, and the movements are simple and relaxing. The second segment is "Testing Your Vision," in which you're told to make your own eye chart to graph your improvement. "Stimulating Your Peripheral Vision" is next, and it requires three pieces of black construction paper and tape to help you balance the use of both eyes together. "Outdoor Exercises" explains why older people have more vision difficulties and shows how to improve this problem. The final exercises--"Sunning," "Skying," and "Long Swing"--help you to adapt to bright lights.

Schneider is an earnest instructor, who obviously believes strongly in his methods. If you're looking for a natural way to improve your eyesight, Yoga for Your Eyes is the place to begin. Also included with the video is a 62-page study guide. --Jenny Brown

Product Description

You can improve your vision-without glasses or expensive surgery. Meir Schneider is living proof. Born without sight, Schneider refused to surrender to his blindness and instead began an intensive exploration of sight and self-healing systems. Now on Yoga for Your Eyes, he shares the total approach for self-healing that he used to reverse his own blindness.

On Yoga for Your Eyes, this respected mind-body authority teaches a complete video course about his innovative methods for improving vision naturally. Watch and learn with Schneider as he shows you how to exercise your eyes back to health. Based on the pioneering work of ophthalmologist William Bates, these proven techniques draw from the principles of Tibetan yoga to relax and retrain the visual system and help us see the world with less strain, greater acuity, and a more spacious visual field.

Meir Schneider can see-and that's a miracle. Whether you would like to improve your eyesight or learn the role that the eyes play in a complete wellness program, Meir Schneider's Yoga for Your Eyes is all you need. Includes a 65-page illustrated study guide and an eye chart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real hope for your eyes, April 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Yoga for Your Eyes (VHS Tape)
...This video shows Meir and his assistant Tony, demonstrating eye exercises that not only may help myopia, but various other eye ailments from glaucoma to macular degeneration. The techniques are not disease specific. Rather they are holistic in that the eye has to be seen as, and treated as a whole, and not in isolation as most eye doctors would. Besides exercises, the tape also highlights bad habits and wrong beliefs that lead to eyesight degeneration in one form or another, due largely to our misuse of our eyes. The exercises (indoors and outdoors) are not difficult, but require discipline and regularity. Meir is inspiring as he genuinely appears to want to convey his techniques (and the reasoning behind them), and he is also evidently his techniques' best example, having conquered his genetic disability and having endured what appears to be well intended but damaging surgery. I don't know of any other tape that actually spends a solid 74 minutes showing you how to counter the widespread belief that eyes only get worse when they start getting bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it's Weight in Gold!, June 8, 2004
The MEIR SCHNEIDER'S YOGA FOR YOUR EYES DVD contains all the essential exercises and materials needed to dramatically improve your vision. After doing just a few of the exercises on YOGA FOR YOUR EYES, I noticed I could focus much more easily on fine print, and my eyes felt relaxed and refreshed! Meir Schneider's instructions are clear and easy to follow, and his life experience of going from being born legally blind to being able to pass his driving exam is inspirational.

The DVD format is much better than reading books or tapes for demonstrating eye yoga, because it's the closest thing to attending a yoga for the eyes workshop. Each technique is clearly demonstrated, so it can be quickly learned and easily remembered. I'd read about the Bates methods of sunning, palming, shifting, and swinging... but never before been able to so quickly master these techniques. Explanations are provided for why these and a couple of other techniques make such a big difference in vision, and why modern lifestyles often tend to unnecessarily cause our vision to deteriorate over time. Schneider explains how we can improve our visual perception as we get older by learning to exercise and relax our eyes on a regular basis.

YOGA FOR YOUR EYES is worth its weight in gold; do yourself and your eyes a huge favor and watch this DVD as soon as possible!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great information, bit slow on the teaching, August 9, 2006
This DVD is based on the Bates' book method that says MOST simple visual blurriness due to nearsightedness or far sightedness is due to eye muscle strain/stiffness, not the cornea or optic nerve (always situations where it is).
This DVD shows exercise that Meir himself came up with based on the book who he himself was born almost totally blind by age 7 who passed the DMV eye exam w/o need for glasses.
I've only gone through some of it, but the simple thing as warming your hands & cupping each eye with each hand for 5 min w/o pressure on the cheek bones was great.
He says most people's eye muscles are stiff from too much reading, tv & computer work & not enough looking long distances like previous generations. I didn't even think my eyes were stiff until I cupped them. When I was done, OH MY GOD, my eyes felt SSOOO refreshed & I could see slightly better.
As most people, I would think sleeping is the same thing, but he says since that is passive, it does not count as giving your eyes a chance to relax.
The DVD has him teaching another man how to do the exercise which contains an eye chart & simple carboard squares to work on your peripheral vision.
The only reason I took off 1 star was because the teaching is so slow & drawn out I kept getting too bored to finish it.
