This is a very good beginner's yoga DVD.
Erin
Before you get into the yoga workouts, you can watch the Learning Guide to learn all of the different poses, which is great if you never practiced yoga before.
Maggie
It is easy enough that I can do the whole dvd and feel like I got full body stretch.

This DVD is perfect for anyone to try, especially beginners. After practicing yoga a few years ago, I wanted to get back to it again and this DVD was a great choice. Before you get into the yoga workouts, you can watch the Learning Guide to learn all of the different poses, which is great if you never practiced yoga before. The instructors provide clear and simple directions during the workouts making it fun and easy to follow. The DVD has three different sessions you can participate in: AM Wake-Up (very energizing and a great way to start my day), PM Relax and Restore (helps me relax and unwind after a long day at work), and the Beginners' Class. The Beginners' Class is calming and relaxing, helps me clear my mind but also strengthens my core muscles. After the yoga session, you will be relaxed and full of energy. If you live miles away from one of the YogaWorks studios like me, this is the best way to learn and practice yoga by known and knowledgeable teachers.

Many reviewers have written some great details about the content, so I'll just keep this brief.
Menu options:
AM wake-up w/Billy (10 min)
Beginner's w/Patty (45 min)
PM Relax & Restore w/Patty (10 min)
(Play All)
Learning Guide w/Patty (15 min)

You'll excuse me not knowing the full names of the instructors, they didn't give their last names, nor could I find the credits anywhere, not even at the end of any of the segments. I could not even find info on the yogaworks site.
Patty's teaching style -
She does tell you always when to inhale/exhale which is great, she tells you what areas each pose strengthens, she gives good postural instructions on how to do the poses correctly, but her teaching style & voice is the style of an aerobics or toning gym class. Her voice is not soothing, I believe she doesn't always give the Sanskrit names of the poses, nor uses terms that are more aligned with traditional teaching like Rodney Yee, etc. This style has a more watered-down, Western style which many people do like, but not myself. Adding to that that this is hatha style to the point you will be standing waiting in between each pose while she introduces them & each pose is separate from each other w/o flow except for sun salutations. The ending meditation is as another said, has her speaking about what to visualize with the same no-nonsense voice.
Billy's style -
Unfortunately he only gets 10 min. His style was more traditional in that he had you do chair & then right after go into a standing fwd bend which I always do together even if the instructor does not as it just doesn't feel right unless you do. He does grunt or sighs a few times, but the same as anyone would when feeling & enjoying the energy more better in the body when you feel the stretch.

Being my first time attempting yoga, I would most definitely recommend this to anyone else beginning, but not confident enough to head into the yoga studio just yet. The instructors walk you through every step and provide modified (easier) versions of the exercises. The instructors are encouraging but not overly cheesy or obnoxious, which is gold in my book. The AM/PM exercises are only 10 minutes long, and when you are short on time, that is the perfect length to just get you going in the morning or relax you at night.

I heartily concur with the other reviews. This is an excellent video for beginners. The instructor effectively describes each posture, moves at an easy pace and offers modifications for people who are less flexible. I am a beginner and this video affirms & supports everything my instructor has been teaching in class. A great way to practice yoga at home.

I had never practiced any form of Yoga until purchasing this video - and now I am addicted to Yoga! I think that this is a great video for true beginners. It's been very effective for me to learn many of the basic poses used in other workouts. I enjoy Patty's direction. Her voice is very pleasant, she is encouraging without being obnoxious, and she fully explains and guides you through each pose. Even though it's slow paced and you move between a lot of poses that don't really string together, it's still great for a less intense workout. I rotate between this and the Body Slim video. Sometimes I feel like this one isn't enough for me anymore now that I am more used to Yoga, but it still leaves me feeling great and provides an amazing stretch for my entire body. I definitely recommend this video to all beginners. `

This is a very good beginner's yoga DVD. I am certainly not a yoga expert, but I did practice for a period of time several years ago, and then fell away from it. After a substantial amount of time, I went back to the same Vinyasa Slow Flow class at my gym. Apparently, I had fallen far out of shape (or perhaps the new instructor was just tougher), and I found the class far too challenging and discouraging.

I really longed for the straightforward, simpler class that I remembered from my first practice back in 2005-2006. Something that was comprised of accessible yoga moves with a relaxation component. That is why I was so excited when I found YogaWorks Beginner's workout On Demand with my cable provider. This is exactly what I had been looking for.

The pace is slow, but that's OK with me. Even though this is not my first exposure to Yoga, I prefer a meditative and thoughtful practice. I also appreciate that the instruction is very straightforward, and not overly emotional like some yoga DVDs.

I have viewed, but not practiced the AM/PM workouts. They look like shortened versions of the beginner's workout.

The beginner's workout is 45 minutes, and is (roughly) broken down as follows:

One-third sun salutations
One-third standing poses
One-third floor poses

Overall, I think this is a great way for someone to begin (or come back to) a yoga practice.
