Book Description

September 2003
Yogi Ramsuratkumar was a man who was compelled by a burning love of the Divine to give up his home, family and profession to wander the roads of India as a beggar. Passing through trials and tribulation few could endure, he met many of his contemporary mystics of our day, including his two preparatory gurus, Sri Aurobindo and Ramana Maharshi, finally landing at the feet of Swami Papa Ramdas of Kerala. This book takes the reader into the unfolding story of this great yogi's life. First-hand accounts, anecdotes and teachings transport the reader into his world: a world that is mystical, miraculous and astounding in its scope, while at the same time it is mysteriously felt to be "nearer than near". To be touched by the truth, beauty and love that emanate from such a being is to be reminded of our deepest longings. The life of Yogi Ramsuratkumar calls upon us to touch that longing within ourselves and to celebrate the inspiration of one rare individual who abandoned everything for the love of God.

You are in for a veritible feast with this heavy tome. A look at the life of Indian Saint Yogi Ramsuratkumar. 800+ pages, excellent writing, phenomenal read. I devoured it. You'll find out about a rare, precious holy, crazy-wise, fool beggar, that will leave you blessed and grateful. In a world full of charlatans he was and IS the Real Deal. Jai Yogi Ramsuratkumar!

5.0 out of 5 stars The story of a true guru, July 7, 2007
This review is from: Yogi Ramsuratkumar: Under the Punnai Tree (Paperback)
Yogi Ramsuratkumar was one of India's hidden gurus and time will ensure that he will be much more celebrated in the years to come as opposed to the time he was in his physical body.

For almost 40 years after finding all his spiritual answers, he continued his "work" silently. During a recent trip to Thiruvanamalai, my uncle told me how the yogi would call out to people at the temple with a stern "come here", bless them and send them back on their way.

This book is not about "miracles" in the traditional sense. Instead it celebrates the life of the hidden yogi and reveals intimate details of the interactions that he had with different devotees. If the goal of the book was to establish a connectivity of the guru with the reader, the book is a complete success. The personal touch is invigorating on multiple occasions.

5.0 out of 5 stars From another world, June 25, 2007
This review is from: Yogi Ramsuratkumar: Under the Punnai Tree (Paperback)
The world of Yogi Ramsuratkumar is so foreign to most westerners that the book feels like you have stepped into another dimension. It will open your eyes to the work of a modern spiritual master in India. The author does a great job of bringing the reader into the world of Yogi and his devotees. Great read.
