Display is black.,

This review is from: Yogourmet Digital Yogurt Making Thermometer (Health and Beauty)
Bought this thermometer to make yogurt. It seemed to be measuring temperature accurately, but at approximately 110 degrees, the left side of the display started to blacken. Within 30 second most of the display became black and the thermometer was unreadible. When it cooled back down to 95 degrees, the thermometer display became readible again. I tried it out again, and the same display problem happened again at approximately the same temperature. It's going back as I have no use for a thermometer that is only readible below 110 degrees. I gave it two stars because I'm assuming that I just have a defective unit and because the clip on the thermometer works fairly well on my other thermometer. The clip allows you to simply attach the thermometer to the side of a pan so it can be used hands-free. It is metal though, so take care in attaching it to non-stick cookware so your cookware doesn't get scratched.

Terrible Thermometer! (SEE UPDATE!),
This review is from: Yogourmet Digital Yogurt Making Thermometer (Health and Beauty)
This is a TERRIBLE thermometer not worthy of the Yogourmet name!!! I own 3 Yogourmet Multi yogurt makers, 3 extra batch jars and 4 non-digital Yogourmet thermometers that I've had for many years. I've been very satisfied with those, but not with this. This thermometer arrived in two pieces, falls apart at every use and reads about 6 degrees too high. I exchanged it for another one, with the SAME results! In addition, the ON button frequently gets turned on accidentally, running the battery dead, unknown to you, until you need to use it! Also, it is harder to clean because you can't get it wet near the electronic parts. My non-digital thermometers never need batteries, don't fall apart, read accurately and are easy to clean. I suggest you buy a different thermometer. I am sorry Yogourmet chose to go to such a terrible version. UPDATE: Yogourmet has extremely polite, very friendly, courteous, excellent customer service. Contacted them about the "new" digital thermometer. They listened, took care of the problem promptly and to my complete satisfaction. In case they ever read this, THANK YOU, Yogourmet!

a thermometer that can't stand the heat should not be in your kitchen!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yogourmet Digital Yogurt Making Thermometer (Health and Beauty)
As stated in another review, the display starts turning black, but that reviewer was slightly wrong, it doesn't have to do with the temperature reading on the display. It has to do with how much heat is coming up the side of the pan to which the thermometer is attached. If you hold it in your hand and dip the tip into the milk, it works okay even on boiling milk (but you might hurt your hand if you're not careful). If you attach the thing to a metal pan using the provided clip, and turn the flame up, it overheats and the liquid crystal display turns black starting on the left side and slowly creeping towards the right. It recovers if you let it cool, but this is a flimsy and cheaply made item that should not be sold to unsuspecting consumers.
