I wish I could give this one zero stars. I purchased this starter directly from NECM's website. I've been making homemade yogurt for two years now so I consider myself proficient in yogurt making. I followed the instructions to the letter and I was underwhelmed at the result. I expected far better from this company especially considering Ricki's reputation. The yogurt set well (I added 1/4 c dry powdered milk per the directions for thicker yogurt). The firmness and texture was fine but the flavor was terrible. Very bland- not sweet, not tart, it really had no flavor at all. My old way of using commercial yogurt purchased from the grocery store makes far superior yogurt and at a cheaper price. I won't be a repeat customer.

Update: NECM responded saying that using commercial milk purchased from a grocery store was likely the culprit of the bland taste. So my advice is unless you have a cow in the backyard or access to raw milk you might want to purchase another starter.

I imagine that this starter might be good but mine failed completely. The package says it needs to be stored in the freezer. I'm not sure that this was stored that way before I got it and the day I received it was a very warm day. The culture was probably dead long before I put it into my freezer. Says "sold by ToysNGamesEtc" so it's likely it wasn't stored properly there either?? It wasn't expensive or I would be asking for a refund. Just FYI I do make yogurt all the time so it wasn't an error on my part as I followed the directions exactly.

This started never worked for me and I followed the package directions to a "t". Never able to make the yogurt at all, it never formed.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the yogurt these cultures make. It is so smooth and no sour taste at all. I will be buying more.

Worked will with cow milk. Goat milk yogurt turned out runny. I haven't found any products that thicken goat milk yogurt though. Regardless, of consistency, the yogurt was very tasty.

I like yogurt a lot, I make own. I found using some store brand as a starter culture always makes my yogurt very sour which I love for dipping on putting on vegetables.
I also make frozen yogurt ice cream - I don't want it sour - that's where this product rocked. I don't need to add anywhere near as much sugar to get it tasting great.
sweet product literally : )

I've tried many cultures sold at Amazon and this is my favorite. The "sweet" in the name turned me away at first but I'm glad I finally tried it. It makes better quality yogurt (texture and composition) and I've used the starter from this culture for as much as 3 months without degradation of quality. I make 2 quarts 3-4 times a week and this outperforms anything I've tried so far.

This culture seems to activate quickly, yogurt tasted great, no contamination. It's very convenient as it doesn't need refrigeration. Good stuff
