There aren't many films that can treat man's struggle with his environment with the subtlety and artifice that is seen in Yor: The Hunter From The Future. It is only under the delicate hand of auteur Antonio Margheriti can cinematography so sullen-cloud hushed also capture neon-like performances from Reb Brown, Corinne Clery and John Steiner. Not to be overlooked Carole Andre and the deep mercurial complexities she imbues into her Ena character.

Margheriti's work is his pinnacle film of contrasts, as few filmmakers have had the courage or the vision to explore the relationships that result from cavemen having to battle for survival against dinosaurs, robots -- as well as holograms. Here we see in stark, and sometimes unsettling granularity, how Margheriti's characters must confront their primordial pasts, their cold futures and their gossamer present existences.

Yor is more than a science fiction film. It is a true philosophical work that somehow marries Waiting For Godot, Ulysses and Brave New World on to the same cellulloid masterpiece - and yet traps it all in an unanswerable mystery of Hitchcockian proportion.

Every film student should commit this film to memory.

This is by far one of the worst films ever constructed by anyone, but it is so awful you'll want to watch it's glorious. splendor over and over again just to relive the crap that it is. Absolutely fake, hilarious, and undeniably a huge joke of a film, Yor, the Hunter from the Future has earned a place in my heart as being so awful, but yet such a great film! My hats off to this movie. If you see this dust-gatherer on the far wall shelf at Blockbuster video and you're in for a laugh, by all means rub off the grime and take a peak.

5.0 out of 5 stars This movie is absolutely terrible, June 14, 1999
This review is from: Yor, The Hunter from the Future [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episode waiting to happen. This hands down one of the top 3 worst movies I've ever had the priviledge to see. Its a cult classic between me and my friends, and the humor ranks right up there with Dolemite.

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid, I thought it was funny then and I was only 11! So when I found it used I jumped at this great deal! This movie is actually a plot worth being redone with a budget over $10,000! But really folks its so funny, the theme song is just plain gut bursting good fun the effects are also great! Wigs that just make you smile, and acting that not often seen, well anywhere!!! I think Yor is really worth adding to your collection of classics! If your reading this chances are you already saw this movie but it was a long time ago, so i am telling you give it another try years later and have fun!!!!

if you like films that are set in stone age times, and you like barbarians, cave girls, and then u like a sci fi element, kinda bit like spaceballs, and like other films such as starcrash and conan, and the land that time forgot. then u will enjoy yor

i saw this film when i was a young kid, and loved it, as i loved all those kind of caveman with dinosaur and space like shows.

the picture is in widescreen, and had good sound, and picture quality, the special effects were good for the time, the film is shot entirely in istanbul, kinda a weird location

4.0 out of 5 stars An absolute childhood favorite!, July 22, 2011
As a kid growing up in the 80s, I LOVED this movie! Yes, nowadays it's hokey as h*** but so much fun to watch, as close as we can get to a perfect union between ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. (1966) and HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE!!! Is Reb Brown a great actor? Not really. Is the story compelling or original? I would guess not. Are the special effects spectacular? Well, the full size, full moving dinosaurs are pretty impressive to say the least. Stan Winston of JURASSIC PARK fame would be proud! But, a future set in prehistory, tribes of cavemen all willing to fight each other, female skimpy fur clothing, dinosaurs, robots, clubs and lasers, and...OH MY THAT EARLY 80s MUSIC SOUNDTRACK!!! A fitting movie for any household's "man-cave" to be enjoyed with snack, beverage, family and friends!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably bad, December 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Yor, The Hunter from the Future [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This may very well be the worst movie ever made. The action is silly, the plot is boring, the direction is singularly awful, and the cast is out of its league. I watch it every few years just to remind myself how terrible a movie can be.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best bad movie its critics never watched, March 28, 1999
This review is from: Yor, The Hunter from the Future [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Yor may be the most important movie ever made for the fact that most of its critics do not seem to have actually watched it. This includes the North American distributors who apparently just fast-forwarded through the film before typing up a review for the videocassette box. The hosts of the 'Razzie' awards also nominated the theme song 'Yor's World' as a candidate for worst film song of 1983. The lyrics of the song must have taken them by surprise by actually having a close connection with the film rather than just serving as a title source. Sure it's funny, but it's also fun. Plus, the proto-industrial space rock soundtrack actually foreshadows and surpasses the overproduced industrial sounds of the 1990's. Made in Turkey (on beautifully barren landscapes) as a 4-part Italian miniseries but edited down for U.S. release, Yor proves that a near-zero budget can go a long way. A must-see for any fan of pulp sci-fi.

4.0 out of 5 stars We're going to need a lot more hemp before we're through, November 9, 2008
This review is from: Yor, The Hunter from the Future [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Now, granted I only saw a review of this on the Internet; but I think that was as good as seeing the movie. After I saw the review I felt like I needed a strong drink. Who came up with the idea? Is it just me, or does Yor look like He-Man's confused half brother. Most people probably found this movie to be painful. I thought it was hilarious. The theme song, for one thing, was quite a work of art. If Yor is never supposed to see the sun then why does he have such an amazing tan? Anyone who gets pushed off a cliff should be dead, right? Wrong! I guess since he is the hunter from the future nothing in can harm him until he fulfills his destiny in the future. But, there is one part in the movie which I we all can admit will never be forgotten. The scene in the cave when Yor fly's with the greatest of ease into the chest of the evil purple cave man with the theme song playing in the background. Yes; it's as heroic as it sounds. He does all this to save the women he loves while killing everyone inside the cave. But wait! There is in fact another seeking Yor's attention. Some ice princess in a crystal cave. She too wears the wired gold chain that Yor wears. Could she be his sister? She does eventually die, so I won't worry too much about her role in this movie. Finally, about 30 minutes before the ending we get to the future. I never thought I get to see a movie were cave men got to use guns, but it happened. This movie, although hilarious at some parts, does not follow much of a plot. This movie is so bad it's good. The only reason I gave this movie 4 stars is because I want to make its way to DVD. If other horrible movies can make it to DVD why not Yor?
