5.0 out of 5 stars very good CD
if u like old school hardcore (PRE gangsta) the way hardcore SHOULD be ....you should get this CD. theres some great songs on here but they should have had 2 songs per band. some great bands like Breakdown only have 1....and it leaves u wanting more but overall this is a great CD. get it. some of my fave songs on this cd are "fallout" by Nausea, "sick people" by Breakdown...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
This is the compilation that was being talked about in the HC scene for years. It's an history of NYHC (88 era). All great band but except for one - Youth Defense League, a skinhead pro-america nazist bands and that's the bad part of this compilation.

4.0 out of 5 stars the way it used to be..., April 23, 2006

I've never been a huge fan of compilations... Too many different bands usually imply too many different musical styles... The result? Albums with no solid identities.

However, this time, Revelation Records did a great job with 'The New York City Hardcore : the way it is'. This album represented an interesting array of the new york hardcore scene in its golden years.

Obviously, "Sick of It All", "Gorilla Biscuits", "Youth of Today" or "Warzone" were among the 'elite' hardcore bands and most of their songs are quite good if not of their best...

But I was highly impressed by lesser known gangs like "Nausea" (just listen the ferocious 'Fallout of Our Being' one time...), "Side By Side" (two superb tunes!), "Youth Defense League", "Breakdown" or... "Supertouch"!!! (Yep, I have to confess you that 'Searching for the light' is simply an amazing song and one of my all time fav').

The New York City Hardcore? The Way It was!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad little comp, September 13, 2007
By
This review is from: New York City Hardcore (Audio CD)
Basically a comp of late 80s New York Hardcore with some classics here such as Warzones "As one" and tracks by Nausea and Supertouch 2 of probably the most underrated New York Hardcore bands ever.

Yeh the comp does include Blue Pride by Youth Defense League and they are pretty much well known as being (at least) fence walkers at worst a Nazi band that just hid their beliefs while in New york but had them pretty open outside.

Whatever the truth (and yeh, on their thanks sheet YDL do mention thanks to Skrewdriver so that should go some way to pretty much closing the whole "Are they arent they" debate) but there is nothing racist or far right on this comp. The YDL song is about working class pride.

Considering this comp was put together by guys from YOT and Revelation you would have thought that they would have been more responsible but oh well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Compilation!!!, December 20, 1998

This Cd is good! It has alot of great legendary band's from NYC. I think that they could of made it better by having each band have two song's. Other than that I was pleased with this CD!

They're are some good hardcore bands on here like Gorilla Biscuits , Sick Of It All , Youth Of Today , but the songs they have choosen aren't really each bands best. I thought it was cool to hear the bands in their earlier periods though. But this is the last time I buy a comp CD.
