From Library Journal
Wade has written "The Practical Traveler" column for the New York Times since 1987. This handbook, a distillation of advice from her column, will be of interest to both novice and experienced travelers. Mini-essays advise the reader on how to prepare for a trip in advance and how to deal with everyday and emergency situations when away. Topics include customs, emergency evacuation, lost luggage, lost passports, packing, and safety overseas. The essays are written in a conversational style and are arranged alphabetically. There is neither a table of contents nor an index, however; in order to find a given topic, the reader must guess at the heading or flip through the pages at random. Despite this drawback, the handbook is still worth buying because of the amount of practical information it contains.
