For what might seem out of place as a Luke Vibert release, when in contrast to his work as Wagon Christ, Vibert's latest work "Yoseph" jaw breaks with Acid.

Satisfyingly second-rate intelligent house music occasionally bubbles with wonderment but more often bleeps on by in its background-intensive context.

4.0 out of 5 stars Acid Drops, November 29, 2003

For what might seem out of place as a Luke Vibert release, when in contrast to his work as Wagon Christ, Vibert's latest work "Yoseph" jaw breaks with Acid.
It's risky for any artist to break his/her own mold. In listening to "Yoseph" we travel back to core electronic roots, entrenched in early acid forms, with Luke Vibert delivering a heady blend of beats, strung together only as Vibert can, while still remaining accessible.
For fan's of Viberts current work, ie: Big Soup, Tally Ho, Musipal etc. Do not expect the same series of fruity loops and samples in what has become a feature of Vibert's music. While this work varies from anything of late, "Yoseph" is as rich and untamed as some of his earlier works. See: Wagon Christ - "Throbbing Pouch". Vibert & Simmonds "Weirs".
In what smachs as a love affair with Acid, the tracks are equally unquie but share a sense of continuity throughout each listen, with EP release, "I love Acid" being a stand out favorite. Do listen to the samples available on Amazon, though they are not enough to give this album the credit it deserves. Some people might not get it, or understand how important and really great "Yoseph" is. "Yoseph" is a bold piece of work, saturated in Acid, made accessible to pedestrian taste buds, make sure you don't miss out.

Just like Jackson already said in his previous review, you cant just underrate Luke Viberts (Wagon Christ) quality's. I got in contact with Luke Viberts music via the Rephlex site on which you can listen to samples of one of his new album (only LP in most stores for now). Although this new album (Kerrier District) is quite different then Yoseph (Kerrier District is mainly fresh sounding Disco) I just had to find out more about this man and his musical inheritance. I was quite supprised when I heard his other pieses / albums. They all are in someway special and seem to have some kind of "Cornish (not corny) twist" I also recognize in RDJ's tracks. Disco, D&B and Acid.......it blows my fuse....GREAT!. So now I am hooked to his man's music and besides Richard D James, to my opinion THE electronic music renewer, Luke Vibert comes second.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???, April 15, 2004
This review is from: Yoseph (Audio CD)
In defense of Luke Vibert's "YosepH", the CD was masterfully done and shows another side to his creativity! He has taken a risk by delivering a new sound that doesn't stray too far from his albums "Tally Ho" and "Musipal." One would think the acid sound would become nerve-racking after a while, but in "YosepH's" case, it's exhilarating and quite, how do you saaay, funktified. Amazingly impressive are the songs "Countdown", "Noktup", "Iloveacid" and "Acidisco"! GEEWHIZZ, Folks! Give the man a break for not trying to sound the same everytime he comes out with something new. A+ work, Vibert! Don't pay any attention to these 1,2 and 3 star reviews!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yo Se Acid, December 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yoseph (Audio CD)
YosepH is pseudo Spanish for "I know Acid," e.g. Yo se (I know) and pH (Acid)--I realized this about 1-2 years after purchasing this album, so I'm not the smartest guy on the block. This is a challenging album and I like the dance tunes the best, but I think that I've got to give it a more serious few listens.

What I can say with conviction, though, is that this album contains the ingredients that separates the Boys from Cornwall from many other electronic artists for its creativity, risk, and rigor. Examine the verve of the title and its implication for anyone interested in Acid music-this is probably a must have for them. Give it a shot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, October 16, 2003
This review is from: Yoseph (Audio CD)
Luke Vibert has many different styles of music. Wagon Christ with the ambient instrumental hip-hop, Plug with the Drum 'n' Bass, Amen Andrews with the jungle, and Like Vibert with everything else. Every Luke Vibert album has sounded sort of the same, with the exception of YosepH. YosepH is a blend of fast breaks and 303 Acid Techno. The problem is this album doesnt have the sweet melody's and heavenly breaks like his other albums. YosepH is filled with synth lines and acid melodies. Can get a little repetitive and annoying. I recommend sampling a song before you purchase it.

Ok, after making an amazing album with B.J.Cole; and having
a great tune like "lovely" on his album Tally HO! you know this
guy can make better music than this...if you don't believe me
just listen to the samples. And the Single is Sooo bad they don't even let you listen to it! - not a good sign guys.
Frankly i am unsure how people get into slightly out of tune
music; but apparently some love it...and Vibert for them
must be the greatest! Buy: Stop the Panic and forget about this
guy. he stinks.
