5.0 out of 5 stars Great, fun game for kids, December 22, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Yoshi Topsy-Turvy (Video Game)
Yoshi Topsy Turvy GBA has a built in gyroscope sensor that is much smaller than the similar Wario game. This lets you actually tilt your GBA unit to play the game.

This game is designed to be easy and fun for the younger set, so more advanced players might find it a bit too easy or dull. You are Yoshi, whose island has been trapped in pages of a book. Your only way to free the island is to go from page to page, pleasing the spirits in each section so they help you free your island.

Really what this means is that you have to move left to right (or sometimes top to bottom) along a one-way track, avoiding enemies, gathering coins, eating fruit, or performing whatever other actions are required to move along.

For example, in one area the "baby eggs" that once lived there in happy harmony have now been turned into red fruits. You have to eat each one and fart out the original egg. I'm not exactly sure how this works in the digestive system, but Nintendo has always played a bit fast and loose with this sort of thing :) You can even see which eggs you've freed over time, in a gallery area.

By tilting the GBA unit left and right, sort of like spinning a lazy susan clockwise or counterclockwise, you help Yoshi move along. You swing wrecking balls, let Yoshi slide down snowy slopes, roll slowballs into larger and larger sizes, and even ride on half-pipes. None of the puzzles are really challenging, but again this is meant for kids. The puzzles are all ones that a kid can figure out relatively easily and then have a lot of fun playing through.

The game isn't really long, but you can always go back and replay sections that you enjoy a lot, looking to get every point there and get the highest score.

Well recommended for its target age group!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite Addicting, October 3, 2005

This review is from: Yoshi Topsy-Turvy (Video Game)
I became a Yoshi fan overnight when I got Yoshi's Island for a present two years ago by accident. It's the only game I play. I do play other games, but I keep Yoshi's Island in my Gameboy SP most of time becuz I'm quite addicted to it.

When I heard about Yoshi Topsy-Turvy I read a lot of bad reviews on it. So, I was kind of nervous about paying so much for a game that wouldn't live up to Yoshi's Island, but I'm actually really glad I bought it. It's not as bad as it sounds. No, it doesn't live up to Yoshi's Island sadly, but it is a different route for Yoshi fans to take.

It gets addicting to turn the Gameboy back and forth, but it can get hard, especially if you forget which way to turn and Yoshi falls into a pit or hits the spikes, haha, but my real complaint about the game is that it's harder to build lives. On Yoshi's Island I'd play one level maybe 3 times and within minutes I'd have 10-15 extra lives, but on this game you can barely make 1 life on one level.

The 3D effect is really good too. I think it'd be a good purchase for Yoshi fans, but if you don't want to pay $30 dollars for it, maybe you could rent it and see if you enjoy how the game is "Topsy-Turvy"-wise, before deciding whether or not to spend that much.

What's also really different is not worrying about getting Mario back if he falls off of Yoshi. I was so used to the annoying crying sound Mario made. Lol.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but Semi-Easy, June 25, 2005

I absolutely love this game!! To play, you turn the game system to change the elevation of the ground that Yoshi is on and the way that things roll or move. It works remarkably well! I have read other reviews of some other game like this and they said that the turning mechanism was faulty. I guarrantee you that this game works like magic! I am amazed at both this and the quality of the graphics. What a creative idea Nintendo had! I haven't yet played all of the Mario games, but I am most definitely working on that I can assure you. The ones that I have played so far have provided me with countless hours of fun! My only negative comment about this game is that it is not long enough and somewhat easy in the early stages. Have fun!
