More of the Yoshiesque goodness!,

For those of you who know about Deep Dish and like their creations, get this CD. It's more of the same if you've heard Yoshiesque Vol. 1. For those of you new to Deep Dish, this is a very deep house blend. There are elements of synthesizer and in some cases the music is mystic more on the trance side but still rocks. All the things I like in house music is found in this great double CD set, such as deep bass, thumping beats, good mixing and a good music selection. Like in Vol. 1, you get plenty of music for you money as both sets give you over 155 minutes of house music Well, why only 4 stars? In a nutshell, CD1.CD1 is the weaker of the two sets. The beginning of the set doesn't go smoothly and in fact seems choppy until track number four, which establishes some tempo. The set then moves along rather passively until track nine, which then establishes the mix and keeps it bouncing until the end. CD1 is titled "Westcoast" which I mildly agree with. This does remind me of some of the west coast stuff I've heard however I don't want people to get the wrong impression. I love west coast house music (give me my Doc Martin and Mark Farina any day), but I have problems with this down tempo/house format. This set should have been set up by itself instead of being combined with another set. If you want an example of the type of set this is, check out the "Mushroom Jazz" stuff by Mark Farina. I don't really consider down tempo to be house music and have yet to hear someone mix the two together well. Clocking in at over 78 minutes, you get a long mix to listen to. I just wish it were more consistent. The second half of the set goes along better and saves it. My cuts of choice are "Lovely", "Glow", "165' Drop", and "Surrender Yourself." CD1 gets 3.75 stars and keeps Vol. 2 from receiving five stars. CD2 is without question the best stuff I've heard from Deep Dish yet. You get over 78 minutes of pumpin' house, composed of progressive, underground, and tribal house music. The set is smooth and is the kind of music I want to hear at a club. You'll have no problems dancing to this set (if you can dance' :P). Again, this is the best set I've heard from Deep Dish and certainly makes this combo worthy buying. My cuts of choice are "Samba", "Always Remember to Respect + Honor Mother", "Lights Off", "I Wish You Were Here", and "Man Don't Cry." Since there are no weaknesses in this set, it gets 5 stars. For those that wanted more after Yoshiesque Vol. 1, here is your chance. You get lots of bang for the buck (just like the first time), and for the most part the ride it's a good one. For all you HousERaTs pay attention to CD2 as this is the best Deep Dish example of house. This isn't a CD I'd suggest for the house newbie but one I'd suggest for a seasoned house veteran!

They took me through a journey, from the West Caost to the East Coast, and it kept getting better and Better.... The Progg. house Duo do it again with this cd and I can't say enough about this cd, they are two incredibly talented people with a mind and talent for music, and they prove it with every remix that they did, from Oh and don't Forget

The Deepest of Deep Dish,
By A Customer
This review is from: Yoshiesque 2 (Audio CD)
If you buy only one deep-house album this year make it Yoshiesque Two. This CD has been playing endlessly since the moment I picked it up. Listen to the way the first track digitally degrades into the second to understand how much work went into some of these mixes. This CD is the epitome of smooth. Don't buy it intending on recreating Sat. night's club experience, rather kick back have a drink, maybe smoke something, and really absorb the intricacies present here. This CD is dedicated to Sharam's late father and many of the vocal samples show how spiritual an album this is. Consider samples like, "I think I can fly... probably just falling," and "What we do in life, echoes in eternity." Just a couple examples but there are more where those came from. A must have, the deepest Deep Dish album to date, the best deep house CD in recent memory. Also, if you like Deep Dish, try there mentor, Danny Tenaglia, his Global Underground: London album is superb.

Light house & bleak disco, Deep Dish improve on the sequel,
This review is from: Yoshiesque 2 (Audio CD)
So this would be them proving they were worth the Apple ad attention, then. Washington DC duo Ali `Dubfire' Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi are pretty much sitting on top of the progressive house mountain they helped build in the States, and this, their follow-up to Renaissance Ibiza, surely keeps them at the perch. Yoshiesque 2, a sequel to - wait for it - Yoshiesque from two years back, deftly displays the men spinning two ends of the same story. Labeled as westcoast and eastcoast sets, discs one and two really should be called "early evening get-up" and "post-peak moments." Gliding through more relaxed yet hearty sundown records, the first 78 minutes (pack that disc, baby!) have the Chemical Brothers slating their psychedelic rock remix indulgences to great effect for Spiritualized's "I think I'm in love," while rubbing elbows with cocktail lounge label OM Records's Soulstice on "Lovely." Add in the plucked bass and impeccable cool of Bernard Leon Howard featuring 80 "Marscarter " to a host of other vocal cuts, and you've got a well-crafted warm-up. Take note, though, the last few tracks bump up the attitude for folks who would actually dance to this stuff. Disc two dives into bleak disco, the Cass and Slide VS Meat Katie remix of "So Strong" a leading primer, as are the sullen synths of Loudeast "Lights Off." The chill chic thump of John Creamer & Stephane K `I wish you were here" and queasy bass of Morel "Funny car" offer capping highlights. Neither record offers the energy rush expected from dance music, yet Yoshiesque 2 never fails to captivate. From lighter sounds to darker moods, Deep Dish whip up a mix miles better than the first. Worthy of the spotlight, indeed.

not what I expected, but better than most compilations,

I am a huge Deep Dish fan - and I have been waiting for months for Yoshiesque 2 to be released (It has been delayed for several months). To surpass the excellence of both 1999's Yoshiesque and 2000's Renaissance:Ibiza (two of my all time favorite compilations ever) would be a difficult task, but the Deep Dish boys give it an honest effort.Disc One - West Coast is more of a deep house affair, with smooth sensuous grooves and sexy vocal scattered about. Standout tracks include: Bernard Leon Howard III's "Marscarter," Behrouz's "What We Do In Life" and Oil UK's "The Future" Disc Two - East Coast has much more of a dark, tribal, progressive feel - check out Deep Dish's own amazing remixes of Dusted's "Always Remember To Respect and Honour Your Mother" and Delerium's "Innocente"... Dark and gorgeous. While fans of their earlier work might find Yoshiesque 2 a touch disappointing, I can testify that after repeated listenings their subtle and deft mixing skills grow on you. This is right up there with Danny Howell's "Nocturnal Frequencies 3", Dave Seaman's "Renaissance:Desire" and Hooj's "Nu-Progressive Era" as my fave compilations of 2001 (so far) FYI - Deep Dish will be mixing the next installment of the fabulous Global Underground series - No. 21, Moscow... coming this fall!

Deep Dish shows why they're one of the top DJs in America,

This review is from: Yoshiesque 2 (Audio CD)
Let me start off by saying that I was not immediately taken by this CD set. I started off by listening to disc 1 (called Westcoast). For what it is, it is a very good mix of chill-out house music which would be perfect for the drive home from a long night of partying. However, some of the tunes can tend to wear out their welcome and can sometimes lead me to reach for the skip button. I quickly moved on to CD 2 (Eastcoast). This is where you'll find your hard-earned money was well spent. This, in my opinion, is one of the, if not the best mix of progressive house and trance I have ever heard. Deep Dish shows you how being a DJ is not just about being able to mix two tracks together (which they happen to so superbly), but to take the listener on a journey. This CD not just should be, but DEMANDS to be listened to from beginning to end with no pauses or skips. To do it any other way would be like taking a quote out of the context of a conversation, it doesn't have the same meaning. The journey begins at the most minimial level, with the stunningly soothing vocal of Julie McKnight singing King's of Tomorrow's "Finally". The atmosphere builds through some driving progressive house to a beautifully trippy remix of Dusted's "Always Remember to Respect & Honour Your Mother" to the peak explosiveness of Greed's "Strangeworld" where the powerful sub-bass hits you like a freight train. Things level off with the bleepy apocalyptic mixes of "Afrika" and "I Wish You Were Here". Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer never sounded so good as her sample on "Innocente" and Morel and Espiritu lend the perfect come-down to this heavenly mix. Throughout the mix is a liberal use of sub-bass patterns (my personal favorite) which lend a feeling of power to even the most meek tune. This CD grips you and doesn't let go, taking you from blissed out house, through tripped out progessive madness to full-on club-shaking trance and back again. Make sure you have a good hour to yourself before starting this CD because it deserves your undivided attention.

So Deep Dish is always pulling out some original stuff... this is no exception. Great album to just relax to before or after a club. They throw some awesome jazz-funk into a few songs on disc 1 which is a nice change from the traditional electric accompaniment of trance.... all in all a great album... probably does not top their recently released GU-Moscow... disc 1 rocks from beginning to end.

The deeper the dish...,

At first glance this album might seem a bit strange. Deep dish doing an Eastcoast-Westcoast thing. Well there are very few DJ/Producers that could pull something like this off, and Deep Dish is appearantly one of them. The first disk "Westcoast" is just that the downtempo (yet deep) vocal sound of west coast house. Very much like "One Nation Under House", or "In House We Trust." Flowing sounds, and great track surprises make this disk one for all house lovers. The second disk is much more of what club experinces of Deep dish are like. Very organized, well thought out deep, deep house. In fact, "Eastcoast" almost can't describe it. It moves and chugs along, just to have you find out that was just one song, then the next hits, and the next. The tracks on both cd's are always big and always Deep Dish. They are never rushed, and always seem to have an underground feel. A+

deep intelligent sound - what one should expect from DD,

Yoshiesque 2 is the best mix album of 2001. I was a little disappointed with GU 21-Moscow because it doesn't portray the real talent of the DC duo. Yoshiesque is not as progressive nor anthem-based, and sounds much more Deep Dish-like. I agree with most reviewers that disc 2 is superior. But I also like the first CD - it is more relaxed, chill-out, melodic, kind of deep house, not bad, just a differen mood. Great for listening in the car on my way back from a night of dancing in a club. My favorite track on this disc is Lovely-Johnny Fiasco's Lovely Vocal Remix.Disc 2 (Eastcoast) is more of an energetic club mix but it also sounds pretty deep, and you can't mistake it for anything else - it's Deep Dish! The 'Eastcoast' CD starts with the excellent track - Finally - a big hit in clubland last summer (2001). Track 4 is an awesome remix of Disted - Always Remember to Respect + Honor Your Mother, and is a tribue to Danny Tenaglia by Deep Dish. Another one of my favorite tracks is Afrika by Oliver Lieb which slows down the tempo a little, then the set goes deeper with John Creamer's and Stephane K's 'Wish You were Here'(Also found on GU 21), and then explodes again with the great Deep Dish remix of Delirium's Innocente - one of their best remixes that just makes me wanna dance! Overall 5 stars - Yoshiesque is everything a mixed album should be - it takes the listener on a journey and never gets boring. Did I mention that the mixing is flawless? Hopefully Deep Dish will deliver more mixes of such great quality in the near future.

I have a tendency to buy two or three compilation CDs per year (Cafe del mar, Miguel Migs, etc...). Most times, I feel lucky if I find two or three tracks I like. This CD has eight tracks that I have as top picks in my iPod. It's a great mix where the two discs have a distinct difference in style. One song blends gracefully into the next. If you are a novice to the genre of music, as I am, then this is a great choice.
