FINALLY - this stellar album is available in the USA. So it's time to trim and update this review from the UK edition.

Coldplay's Guy Berryman produced The Pierces strongest album to date, one that bridges the sonic gap between their softer "Light of the Moon" album and the edgier "13 Tales of Love and Revenge." I have owned and cherished it since last May. Last year, I bought more than 100 CDs and digital albums and You & I was my absolute favorite. It is a breathtaking work that soars far above their two previous masterpieces.

The sisters look look like supermodels and are often photographed in delicate dresses, but don't let down your guard; their music packs a punch. Inventive lyrics, daring tales, soaring choruses, monster hooks and powerful rhythms propel most of the tracks. The rest are rich, sweet, angelic and heavenly. There is not a single "filler" track on the album.

That said, I made a few modifications to the running order to turbo charge this release. You can build your own "deluxe edition" today by ordering the CD or MP3 (with digital booklet) and adding on the four b-sides and bonus track from the MP3 store.

My YOU & I DELUXE EDITION:

1. Piece of You (b-side of You'll Be Mine - clever lyrics; one of their most powerful songs kicks off album in high gear)
2. You'll Be Mine
3. Love You More
4. To The Grave (b-side of Love You More - a haunting and uplifting song straight out of the early 60's)
5. We Are Stars
6. Glorious - stunning, a complete reinvention of the James Levy original
7. It Will Not Be Forgotten (bumped from the CD's #2 position, this steadily became my favorite song on the album)
8. The Good Samaritan
9. Kissing You Goodbye
10. Close My Eyes
11. Space & Time
12.

Why is it that I can only find good music today by listening to UK radio stations? I heard this and RAN to iTunes and it wasn't there? So I RAN to Amazon. Nope.

Rant over. This album is positively 'Glorious.' They are angels singing alternative.

That's all I have to say.

Unconvincingly, it appears, I did assure my eldest son (a muso) that my current infatuation with The Pierces has little to do with the fact the sisters are both drop-dead gorgeous!
In fact, it was the music that I uncovered first, trawling the 'net for pictures and video was simply a matter of curiosity (supposedly) after the event.
However, I digress; this 'infatuation' is nothing but a reaction to most of the songs on 'You and I', which constantly swim around my head. To alleviate this condition, I resort to playing the album, and never tire of hearing it. This, then, is the mark of great music.
Why would I care what they look like?

The Pierces have it all one would say for the music industry.. vocal talent, model looks and excellent song writing skills. But the machine being what it is, groups like these never get their due. I for one think they should be at the Grammy's instead of all these neon pink/green space robots we have today!

This is a great album just like their first!

This CD has been in my car CD player for close to a month now. Each of the singles that have been released in the UK are strong, but the song that I keep going back to is the Catherine Pierce-penned, "How Can I Love You More". The sonorous chorus is powerful and the emotion rings true. This is my new favorite song. And, I am very glad to see the Pierce sisters enjoying success across the pond. Hopefully, the momentum that they gain there will allow them to successfully cross back over here. Their recent success is much deserved.

These women have a beautiful singing stile of old that is not your modern warbling and soulless drivel. They are very refreshing with their harmonies and complimentary voices.Soul touching to listen to.

Alabama sisters Catherine and Allison Pierce have been performing since childhood, with a background that includes musician and painter parents, extensive training in ballet, and encouragement on guitar-and-vocal duets. Now, on their fourth release, the Pierces’ blend rivals Fleetwood Mac for trademark, soaring harmonies. The opening track, “You’ll Be Mine,” carries a dark, Snow White storyline of spinning wheels and fated love atop a layered chorus so strong that it’s a wonder Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham aren’t suing. This classic yin-yang of minor-key tales of tribulation staged in sugar-spun song works every time. The Pierce’s earlier albums bounced between earthy folk and light rock, but You & I is consistent in style and sound, also recalling a pair of Wilson sisters with a crazy-on-you hunger. If you like this one, don’t forget to lobby for the domestic release of Creation, the band’s fifth, currently pending release only as an expensive import.

I love the Pierces and You & I is a real change of direction for them. Their previous release, Thirteen Tales Of Love And Revenge was very fun, humours and sardonic. It was very theatrical, reminding me at times of a Brecht/Weil collaboration. This is a collection of songs about love, heartbreak and relationships. The title track deserves to be a hit. It's a sweetly sad ballad of love and loss featuring Allison's lovely vocals with Catherine's accompaniment on guitar and harmonies. It's a beautiful song! There are two official videos of it you can see on Youtube; One orchestrated, the other accoustic. I like both of them though my favourite is the acoustic version. On the whole it's a beautiful collection of songs.
