Book Description

What is home?
How do we cope with feelings of foreignness?
What is it that defines us as humans?
What do we need to feel at home?

These are some of the questions Jutta Heitland explores in her book
“So You Are Free ... Making It Home”.

Jutta Heitland was born in Austria,
grew up in Germany and is living currently in New Zealand.
In the book, she reflects on what it is that we need to find our place in life.
She approaches the issue by exploring aspects of life such
as curiosity, envy, pressure, friendship, love and death.
Using her own story as the starting point,
her questions about life are then followed by interviews she conducted
with twelve people from different countries.
They talk about their view of life with great frankness,
so the abstract ideas in the first half are illustrated by practical examples
and personal insights.

“So You Are Free ... Making It Home” is a book about life.
It is not only an enjoyable read,
but will also strike a chord with anyone on their own quest for answers.
The book is intended to stimulate discussion, questioning
and ongoing self-reflection.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a strange land no more April 4, 2011
Jutta Heitland gives voice to the questions most of us have in our lives. I've traveled the world, have lived in many states in one country (U.S.), but never moved from one country to another permanently. I can relate nonetheless with Jutta's search to find her place in this world. By reading this book, I think you will be able to find as Jutta did: "... this place fits me like a glove." If you feel like a "stranger in a strange land", you will know where your true home lies after you turn the final page. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars We've all Been Here April 8, 2011
In this beautifully written book, Heitland tells her story of her life's journey and ponders on some of the questions, feelings, and situations of life. Every one has experienced these things in some form or another and that's what makes us who we are. I don't normally read very many nonfiction books, but this book could speak to anyone because it touches on what life throws at us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! April 4, 2011
I have always thought on such things. What makes one feel at home? I have moved more than a few times but in time the new place became "home" The author lays out all the different things that home-home and her interviews add a special angle.Read her book and see how people can be more alike than different!
Well done and 2 thumbs up
