4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - Find Help, April 25, 2000
This review is from: You Are Not What You Weigh: Escaping the Lie and Living the Truth (Inner Beauty Series) (Paperback)
This is a great book that really helps the reader put food and spirit in line. I highly recommend it. In some parts she (the author) gets very spiritual (which is good) but it can be confusing so you have to focus. When I am feeling down sometimes I go to read it and later I find myself putting things in correct perspective. GREAT for those who have any type of self-esteem, image, or food issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will set you free, April 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: You Are Not What You Weigh: Escaping the Lie and Living the Truth (Inner Beauty Series) (Paperback)
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any woman who has ever struggled with her weight or self-image. Before reading this book, I had been trapped in a hopeless cycle of self-loathing, destructive eating behaviors and depression; I had been anorexic and also overweight and was repeatedly failing any and every diet I tried within days of starting it. This book set me free, because in it Lisa Bevere exposes our culture's lies about body image and worth through the light of God's truth and love. This isn't a diet book, it's a book about coming to understand your worth in Christ and giving Him control over your weight and eating. Though I am still a work in progress and am planning to read the book again, I cannot overstate how powerfully it has affected me and how wonderful it is to be free from the tyranny of dieting and low self-esteem. Again, if you have ever struggled with your weight or body image, read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the "Usual" Approach, August 21, 2005

This review is from: You Are Not What You Weigh: Escaping the Lie and Living the Truth (Inner Beauty Series) (Paperback)
Most books that address body weight and the issues surrounding it, take the approach of tackling the unwanted weight itself. This is a book about inner transformation - the ONLY way that true and LASTING change takes place. Lisa explores the spirtual dimension of every woman's battle with the bulge, and gives specific instruction for victory. Don't read this book unless you're ready to be challenged in EVERY area of this most important issue! You will find freedom and wholeness in it's pages.
