4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - Find Help
This is a great book that really helps the reader put food and spirit in line. I highly recommend it. In some parts she (the author) gets very spiritual (which is good) but it can be confusing so you have to focus. When I am feeling down sometimes I go to read it and later I find myself putting things in correct perspective. GREAT for those who have any type of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Um..
I expected more from this book. But it wasn't as good as I expected it would be. I didn't even finish it as I kept waiting for it to really open up. Sometimes it was like it wasn't going anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will set you free, April 15, 2004
By A Customer
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any woman who has ever struggled with her weight or self-image. Before reading this book, I had been trapped in a hopeless cycle of self-loathing, destructive eating behaviors and depression; I had been anorexic and also overweight and was repeatedly failing any and every diet I tried within days of starting it. This book set me free, because in it Lisa Bevere exposes our culture's lies about body image and worth through the light of God's truth and love. This isn't a diet book, it's a book about coming to understand your worth in Christ and giving Him control over your weight and eating. Though I am still a work in progress and am planning to read the book again, I cannot overstate how powerfully it has affected me and how wonderful it is to be free from the tyranny of dieting and low self-esteem. Again, if you have ever struggled with your weight or body image, read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the "Usual" Approach, August 21, 2005
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Most books that address body weight and the issues surrounding it, take the approach of tackling the unwanted weight itself. This is a book about inner transformation - the ONLY way that true and LASTING change takes place. Lisa explores the spirtual dimension of every woman's battle with the bulge, and gives specific instruction for victory. Don't read this book unless you're ready to be challenged in EVERY area of this most important issue! You will find freedom and wholeness in it's pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh New Things about Diet, August 24, 2004
What I really like about this book is because it's unique, with fresh and new things about diet problem. I have read many many books and articles about diet and stuff, but what I read in Lisa's book is so fresh and new. Other books just keep repeating the same thing over and over again, but not this book. It really change me from the inside. When I was a child I use to be overweight and receive mocking. When I was teenager I lost the fat and did not have problem with weight until after I gave birth to my baby. I became overweight again and since than, the bad memories of mocking and rejection came back to haunt me.
This book works as a consolation for me, it heals my hurting soul. It also show me how to reach my normal weigh goal, but now, not for the wrong reason.
I also like to read Lisa's own experience, I could trust her because "she's been there and done that".

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, February 4, 2007
I would like to start off by saying that this book is awesome.I didn't plan on buying any books that where related to diet and exercise, but this book caught my eye just by the title "You Are Not What You Weigh-ending your battle with food..." So, I thought cool I'll buy this book and like all the other books that I've purchased on diet and exercise it will just sit on the shelf collecting dust. Well guess what? I couldn't put this book down. Reading and allowing the words to jump in my spirit as I read them has been a total blessing in my life. I would recommend this book to anyone that has been searching for some "real" truth to your battle with weight and eating disorders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changing, February 18, 2010
This books was life-changing! I don't know a woman out there that would not benefit from this book. We all live in this world and MOST of us live under the lies that this world leads us to believe. It affects all of our relationships, including friendships, marriages, parenting, etc. This book shines the light of God through its pages into the dark lies we have lived with for so long! I pray that anyone who picks this up is reunited to a God that loves them so much and is in a constant state of trying to mold us into who He would have us be. Journal while you read. It is amazing what God will tell you! Also, keep a Bible close by. God will shine His light on His word as the lies are uncovered. God is amazing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Might actually work!, June 29, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book had trouble holding my attention at first, but by half way in I couldn't put it down until the end. It's a fresh look at what we all know is the successful, permenant way to weight-loss : lifestyle change. Basically this book says 'don't diet, fast instead. and don't fast to lose weight, fast to be closer to God, and the rest will follow.' It's surprising how hard it is to accept that one's weight can be lost even if we don't obsess about it, try to control it, and even if we completely let go and trust God! I love the use of biblical quotations to drive home the point. I knew this book was different when, once I was done reading, I wasn't "jazzed up" (for about a day) to lose all my weight right now as other fad diet books make me. I was in a more prayerful mood, and ready to prepare myself for real permenant change.

I wish she also had biblical motivation for exercise; maybe in the next edition!
