I read the reviews for this book and they are spot on. This book is full of interesting information about our natural world, our place in it, and "the surprising connections to nature that we all share." It's is both comforting and informative. Not a book I would recommend for a creationist - there is definitely an evolutionary slant here. The artwork is superb! Each 2 page spread is a colorful diorama illustrating the text and my son (8) and I had fun figuring out the materials that were used in each piece. We liked this book so much, we bought a second copy to give his Montessori classroom as a gift.

I was awed and stunned as I read this inspiring book for the first time. After subsequent readings to my own children as well as parents and children in Parents' Place classes, the elegance and sensitivity conveyed in Elin's words and have not been diminished. I am inspired to look beyond my modern feelings of isolationism, to realize that I am and always have been connected physically (not didigitly) to the world around me!

I sent 'You are Stardust' to six of my school age grand children instead of stuffing their digestive systems with sugar and chocolate. Their parents report that they are still reading the books three weeks after Easter.

I love the pictures of the dioramas, has a cool 3-D effect. However, the story is lacking.
The story starts out "You are stardust". Wow! That's a huge idea! How does that work? The problem is that you never really find out. Instead, the book jumps from idea to idea without developing any of them.
I expected a story about how stars exploded and eventually that dust turned into people. That would be a great story. Instead a bunch of largely unrelated facts about the planet and the animal kingdom are listed. I get the part about people being a part of nature and everything is connected, blah, blah, blah. But I wanted a really cool story of evolution. I was expecting "COSMOS", but got another book of cool facts.

I just purchased this book for my grandsons 6th birthday. It combines the ideas of environment with inventive three-dimensional dioramas. It sparks your imagination and delights even this mature grandma. Kids are nature.....this picture book "reveals ties that are often sensed and seldom explained. In a world dominated by technology never have these incredible connections between children and nature been more worth exploring." I think it's exceptional! I like being stardust! Never thought of it that way before.

Absolutely captivating truths about how we are related to the world around us are presented in an almost magical way. Beautifully illustrated, too. Some days my children ask questions on every page, other days they look at the pictures and enjoy the rhythm of the world. One of our favorite books.

As two science nerd parents, we love this book and so does our child. The illustrations are really mixed media pictures. It includes great conversation starters about concepts in our natural world. I can see this book being used as a touchstone of ideas for years to come.
