5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect baby tunes!
I first bought Catch the Moon, E.M.'s cooperative effort with Lisa Loeb. I was certainly not disappointed. I own everything she's attached to now. I found that this is the perfect music for those of us who grew up with very particular musical tastes and want to enjoy our favorite pastime of listening to only the finest music with our little ones. This artist really perks...

The selection of songs is o.k., but it's hard to understand the words. It would help if the lyrics were included, but they are not. Consider spending your money on one of the other wonderful recordings for children that are available, for example, Sing Along with Putumayo. The quality of this recording is unbelievably better than You are My Sunshine and it comes with...

I found that this is the perfect music for those of us who grew up with very particular musical tastes and want to enjoy our favorite pastime of listening to only the finest music with our little ones. This artist really perks tiny ears. I truly feel that I am sharing music with my son now! That says nothing about this woman's beautiful voice who I could feel great, relax or fall asleep to anytime!

Bottom line, as I type my honest review, my 10 mo. son is hanging on the side of the entertainment center shaking it big time to "Ooby Dooby". What more can you say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Parents, keep your street cred and enchant your home, December 2, 2003

This might be the best children's album I've ever heard. Mitchell's soothing voice and folky instrumentation (toy pianos, acoustic guitars, sing-alongs) evoke memories of my own childhood, sitting around campfires, wide-eyed and transfixed at the magical stories spun by a guitarist through her music. The songs range from sad to charming to silly (the ABC's in reggae?). The set covers almost all the bases of children's folk music, with some well chosen standards ("Skip To My Lou," including some silly new verses) and covers (Schoolhouse Rock's "3 is the Magic Number" and "Goodnight Irene" by Leadbelly). The standout track is the traditional piece "Froggy Went a Courtin" (which has also been covered by the venerable Bob Dylan, to give you an idea of Mitchell's skill in song selection). It's the irreverent story of Mr. Frog and Miss. Mouse's wedding...but only after her uncle rat gives his blessing! Finally, the added bonus of owning this disc is that since Mitchell is from the indie band Ida, you can still keep your street cred among your hip but non-child-having buddies.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't ask for better, December 7, 2004

This review is from: You Are My Sunshine (Audio CD)
My Husband bought this CD for me when I was pregnant with our first child. My sister and I sang 'You are My Sunshine' to each other growing up and still do if we need to be cheered up. My husband heard a review of the album on National Public Radio and knew it was the perfect gift for me. He knew I loved folk and acoustic music.
After our son was born playing the album during our evening nursing sessions was a mainstay through the first four months. Now we keep the album in the car. We have a long commute to get grocery's and run errands so it keeps him very happy B-Boppin to 'Take you Ridin in the Car', 'BoDiddly', and 'The Ladybug Picnic'. My sister now sings 'You are my Sunshine' to her nephew and he loves it - I can't wait until he can sing along with her. Your children will love the album and so will you. I worked in early childhood education for several years and it is by far one of the best children's album I have heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listening to this music is like coming home, August 4, 2008
This review is from: You Are My Sunshine (MP3 Download)
I stumbled across this album while searching for another Brady Rymer album for my kids. My wife and I have the privilege of parenting 4 small children (our oldest just turned 5), and music is a big part of our lives.

Initially the old picture on the cover caught my eye in one of Amazon's "People who bought this also bought..." suggestions. Then I saw that it had "You Are My Sunshine" on it and had to take a listen. I was immediately won over by Elizabeth Mitchell's (not to be confused with the LOST version) honest, warm, and very welcoming voice. So intimate and understated, and so absent from popular music today. Her arrangements are both simple and masterful and such that you just want to sing along.

It only took about three samples before I was completely sold and downloaded this album and "You Are My Flower," too. These became immediate hits with my family and the kids even requested to have this as their night-time music (displacing another CD that has occupied that spot for the last 4 years!).

These are great songs, very well done, and you can listen to them over and over and never get tired of it. You can listen to the samples and make your own decision, but I won't hesitate to recommend this album to my close friends, especially those with small kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and relaxing, July 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: You Are My Sunshine (Audio CD)
I am a nanny who first heard this cd at one on my family's home. The child enjoyed it and I enjoyed it. I get tired of hearing Thomas the Train and Raffi, and so I bought this CD for the two other families I work for. They thought it was a great gift, and I finally found some music both the children and I could enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful album!, July 9, 2008
This review is from: You Are My Sunshine (Audio CD)
This album not only has sweet songs that are familiar, but Elizabeth's voice is so naturally soothing. and the guitar and other music is so fun and vibrant considering it is soft music, the very first time i played it i had a smile stuck on my face through nearly every song and I still smile when i hear/sing these songs a year later! And as vain as it may sound, one of the most wonderful things about this album is that her voice is low and folksy, making it easy for me to sing along and also to sing the songs without the cd (for fun with my baby and also when he is upset). this cd calms my little guy every time he is upset and makes him smile when he hears the little kids singing and making little noises on the cd. This cd was a great blessing to me because i love singing to my baby and this album gave me a wonderful repertoire.
The only drawback for me is that a couple of the songs have somewhat sad words (not everyone cares about the words, but i do, esp since i am interested in learning songs to sing for my baby) and i don't really like singing the sad songs to him (maybe he doesn't even notice?). But the vast majority of the songs are sweet and catchy and not too babyish to where you get really sick of them.
It is a gem of an album and I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, March 15, 2006

I bought this CD recently for my 18 month old son and we just can't get enough of it! I wasn't surprised that it was good since my husband, son and I are huge fans of Catch the Moon but HOW good it was just blew me away.

Elizabeth's voice is so soothing and the music is so interesting and eclectic - folk, rock and roll, ska - that you just can't stop playing it. My son loves the ABC song in particular.

Bottom line - Elizabeth Mitchell is a genius at making tried and true childrens songs inviting, interesting and downright dreamy! No annoying kids songs here. YAY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! Children's music that I LIKE to listen to!, January 21, 2011
This review is from: You Are My Sunshine (Audio CD)
I've been looking for music that I can listen to with my baby that appeals to both of us. I actually found out about Elizabeth by listening to toddler radio on pandora. After listening to song after song of annoying, high pitched voices about peanut butter and jelly and wiggling and other made up words, I finally bought this album and am glad I did! It's music we can listen to together, and it puts both of us into a more relaxed, happy mood. Most of the songs on the album I have fond memories from childhood and am happy to pass them on to my little one. I look forward to buying more of her music. My baby is little now, so I can't wait until she starts to sing these songs along with me. Thanks to Amazon, it was really easy to buy this mp3 album

I love this album, and her other two also. I listen to her music in the car sometimes when I don't even have a child around! Elizabeth Mitchell's voice is amazing. The guitar music accompaniment is great. There are multiple songs on her discs that have become a permanent part of our bedtime song ritual. My son especially loves "Ladybug Picnic", and I like her version of "3 is the Magic Number". For all parents annoyed by obnoxious kids music, this album is a wonderful oasis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great acoustic music!, December 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: You Are My Sunshine (Audio CD)
This CD is a refreshing acoustic departure from a world full of computer-generated tunes and cheesy children's music. Great classics for families with not too much instrumentation and plenty of human voice.
