Simply a great rock record with hooks that grab and hold.,

Lots of great, catchy hooks abound on this second record by the Gentle Readers. It's a perfect blend of pop and rock -- a combination that can be hard to sustain over an entire album, but the Gentle Readers pull it off with much derring-do. Pop gems like "You Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time" and "Town and Country" will pull you in fast and close, but you'll ultimately find that the album's greatest charms lie in such songs as "Ruthless", "Eiffel Tower", and "Real Smoke"; their melodies and lyrics will reverberate in your brain's pleasure dome for days afterward. The Readers are anything but gentle -- Lee Cuthbert's guitar work can rival the hard "fret"-ful joys of Magnapop's Ruthie Morris, or even some of the Goo-Goo Dolls' earlier stuff. Susan Fitzsimmons' vocals are strong enough to wrap around and hold onto the music's dynamism -- she's got a great voice -- unique and very arresting. Solid craftmanship all-around. Take a chance and invite these Gentle Readers into your musical library.

Refreshing guitar rock from girls who know.,

I'm so glad I found this record, I can't handle any more wimpy girls thanking India for who knows what. The Gentle Readers have created a pop influenced rocker. The lyrics are smart, the songs are catchy, and the band can play = an amazing record. If you are a fan of Liz Phair, Talking Heads, the Feelies than you will enjoy this one.
