Very Disappointed,
By Yoga Gal (St Louis MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You: Breathing Easy: Meditation and Breathing Techniques to Relax, Refresh and Revitalize (Audio CD)
I was looking forward to meditation and breathing to relax. What a disappointment as it began with medical advice for shots needed after age 60.. My stress level increased waiting for the meditation, I turned it off after 15 minutes.

Misleading Title,
This review is from: You: Breathing Easy: Meditation and Breathing Techniques to Relax, Refresh and Revitalize (Audio CD)
This is really an audio book from the authors' popular YOU series. The actually tracks on breathing number 3.5 and appear at the end of the second disk. They are lead by Lisa Oz and are good, albeit brief. I was disappointed.

Hysterical and exhausting about breath,

This is an awful introduction to the science of breath. The reading is fast, hysterical and terrible to listen to. If you want a stress reducing CD, try one of Belleruth Naparstek.

Not really what I expected,

Love these 2 docs but this cd wasn't what I expected. I thought this would be a cd of meditation/relaxation music. This cd would be good for someone unfamiliar with the docs messages or just beginning meditation/relaxation. Does have very useful information and would be great for some. Anybody want to buy mine?

Meditation Technicalities,
By Honestly (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You: Breathing Easy: Meditation and Breathing Techniques to Relax, Refresh and Revitalize (Audio CD)
I found it boring as there is too much diagnosing the function of meditation and relating itto the individual. I expected as portrayed in the advertisement to have some actual mediatations scripts, new age music etc. it was hard to find.

You Breathing Easy,

This was rudimentary, at best. The instruction was mostly "feel good" nonsense and way too little breathing exercises - a total waste of my money.

Breathing Easy?? Not After Listening To This!,

There was too much that didn't need to be included. They should've concentrated more on the breath work. The part(s) in which they did that weren't solid either, though.
I do like the previous work of Dr's Oz & Roizen, most of it at any rate (I do think they saturate the market with too many books-one per year). I primarily liked their first couple of books ("You! Owners Manual" & "You On A Diet"). They teach some very valuable information to the public. I suppose having Oprah as a means to get the information out has helped immensely. From a personal standpoint, I much preferred Andrew Weil's "Breathing." He does a 40-minute dissection on breath work (its roots, its benefits, how different cultures perceive and use it for health benefits, its lack of understanding/teaching by traditional docs), then he teaches you how to breath to improve health. A truly excellent audiobook. If your goal is to improve your health through breath work, I'd go with Dr Weil's book. That's my .02.

I have COPD so breathing techniques are very important to me. This audio is at the top of my recommendations both for the well described breathing techniques AND for the guided meditations. I had to have some intensive gum surgery done and donned my iPod and listened to this meditation during the proceedure and it truly helped me relax and I have suggested it to others for use during medical/dental proceedures as well. Thanks for another GREAT book, Dr Oz..........

Compared to Andrew Weil's breathing CD this was a washout. I love the books but this CD was awful. Order Andrews if you want to learn how to breathe.

Get it from the library and only listen to the last part,

Dr. Oz and his buddy should NEVER read their own books. Both may be fine doctors, but their voices are comically lacking. The only fun parts of the audio version are the pieces at the end done by Oz's wife, Lisa. Now that lady has the meditation voice down to a science. She is great.
The vast majority of this is something that could be summed up in a short article. I get the feeling that the ones who are really breathing easier are the doctors and Mrs. Oz. They've made a truck load of money retelling what is already common information. The authors also nicely set up a "deal" with a company so that readers could get an extensive blood work analysis. They assured readers that most insurance would not cover this extensive battery of tests since they would cost around $3,500. Geez, maybe they don't cover it because it is not necessary?? The company will only charge $1,500 not to mention the extra special deal for the first 50 at about $1,000! Be assured, however, that Oz and company are not connected with the blood work company. Oh, Oz and friends also suggest a memory foam mattress that they acknowledge will cost at least $2,500. No mention of not having some stock in that company. So for a mere $4,000 and some extra for the doctor's visit I will need to have someone explain the test results I should be breathing easier--except when I'm worrying about the debt incurred and hyperventilating about that. Throughout, the authors tell you that you can download PDF files with additional information. I never heard them tell where, however. Perhaps, they did and I missed it. The voices were so bad I just could not bring myself to listen again. This stuff was incredibly mundane and the voices...well, enough said on that. Thankfully, I got this from the library, so I don't feel ripped off. And, Lisa's 10 or 15 minutes are very relaxing--not work buying this, but worth borrowing from the library. |
