I,ve been waiting years for this recording to be re-released. It's in my opinion there best album since Spooky Two. With veteran originals Gary Wright and Mike Harrison the vocals are really at there best. Mick Jones from the band Foreigner is with them on guitar and his musical influence is definitely felt. There's no writing credits on the sleeve and I no longer have the vinyl version but I remember that Jones helped on the writing. There isn't a bad song on the album.
Here's where the bummer comes in. The sound is of bootleg
quality. There's PLENTY of distortion. On two songs "This time around" and "Holy Water" the distortion really ruins the pleasure of listening to these great tunes. The album was put out on a German label called Progressive Line not the Edsel label which did a great job of remastering the other imports that I got of the Tooth. Still it's great to have and it's very listenable, just be ready to cringe from time to time.

...the audio quality sounds like a dull dub from an old piece of vinyl or worn out cassette, really. The actual song material and performances are right up there like all the Spooky Tooth albums, as always. The vocals of Mike Harrison are full of deep soul and the vocal/keyboard interplay between Harrison and Gary Wright is always a great thing. Mick Jones (later of Foriegner) plays strong, and tasteful guitar with no overblown wanking. This was recorded in the mid 70's and had a bit of that 70's rock thing prevalent. Like most Tooth albums this is more "heavy" than boogie.
I've got this buried away on vinyl somewhere but I've waited to find a copy of this on cd for a long time, the quality of this transfer is appaling, and it was expensive too.
Still, I put it on the player once in a while and always end up listening to the whole thing because it's such a great album to begin with.
Opening track "Cotton growing man" is a real killer: deliberate, purposeful, very strong indeed and oh that classic Hammond organ!

The album is damn good indeed but don't waste your money on this label's version. You're better off to burn a copy from vinyl or another sourse than to settle on this muffled transfer it's more than bad, it's really bad.
5 stars for the original album/recording, 1.25 stars for this cd copy.

When the true re-release (remaster) is available I'll be in line to buy a copy, perhaps you will too.

OK, maybe five stars is a bit much. I don't have the CD, I have the album. I would rate the music as five stars.
Classic English sounding rock although Gary Wright is an American.
Heavy but not overbearing and Mike Harrison's vocals are so soulful. I have always liked groups that have more than one singer and I do like Gary Wright. However, one listen to "Self Seeking Man" and I am blown away by the sheer power in Mike Harrison's voice. The lyrics are a lesson in life too. I could listen to this album and never grow tired of it. In my opinion it is Spooky Tooth's best.

Before Gary Wright and Mick Jones went their separate ways they collaborated on two of the best and most under-appreciated rock albums of the early seventies.

This album and "Witness" are very similar guitar driven albums. Gary Wright's keyboards are traditional piano and organ, no synthesizers. The tight rhythm section of Chris Stewart and Bryson Graham drive these mid-tempo tunes home and create a palpable tension. Mick Jones' guitar plays well off Wright's keyboards.

Mike Harrison is the best rock vocalist you've never heard. His voice is a cross between Rod Stewart and Paul Rogers, rough and bluesy and very expressive.

I can not comprehend the outrageous prices charged for these 30 year old albums. This CD has 35 minutes of music, it is unconscionable to price this at $30!
