This review is from: You Can Be a Woman Entomologist (Paperback)
Grade level: grade 3-6.
Part of the growing "You Can be a Woman..." series that encourages girls to consider math and science careers, You Can Be a Woman Entomologist is filled with the real life insights and experiences of an active female entomologist who explains the various abilities and interests a young person needs to pursue a career entomology. Co-authored by Judith Cohen, a former aerospace engineer, and Dessie Underwood, a practicing entomologist, the book opens up the fascinating world of insects in a well-written and factual manner. Instead of photographs of mesmerizing insect specimens, Cohen's husband, David Katz uses interesting and vivid computer-generated illustrations to show case the insect world. While colorful and fun, the illustrations still leave the reader wishing for a few photos.
Although slanted toward young girls, young boys would also find the information valuable. This book as well as the others in the series will provide new ideas for career exploration in the classroom and should be a part of every school library's collection.
