Ohio keeps on giving.., July 21, 2009
This review is from: You Can Fly on My Aeroplane (Audio CD)
This is a great and unexpected reissue choice. I was lucky to find this on vinyl and did my own conversion thinking it might never get reissued. This album has aged quite well. I find that a lot of small-label Ohio artists from the period have an identity. They show great confidence and always give you the feeling that they could easily have blown up. Wee is no exception. This album is well conceived with no weak tracks, a nice survey of styles but held together in a cohesive unit by the production.
The main influences are the Ohio Players/Junie, Stevie Wonder (synth instrumentation on "I'm All Changed", for example), and the Isley Brothers. These are the type of influences you want to have in the 70's and they are synthesized well here.
I would say that the only weak point would be that there are many superior soul vocalists as compared to the lead. This is overcome by his delivery and style. Think of how Junie fits into the Ohio Players and Funkadelic to see how it can work. Regardless, I still give it 5 stars. It's one of my favorite albums and not just due to rarity.

Lost Masterpiece, September 23, 2008

It's a shame this lp was not picked up by a major when it was released in 1977.most of the songs have that Mellow,Mellow vibe that i love so much about Modern soul.Try Me,Put it Real Good are just two of the stand outs on this Masterpiece. They don't make lp's like this anymore.

I need more Funky/Soul "ta-twow" like this., September 9, 2008
This review is from: You Can Fly on My Aeroplane (Audio CD)
Man, it's late. It's time to turn down the lights and float in the goo of this chocolate sweet treat. Another killer release from this killer label, like Shuggie Otis and Marvin Gaye making love to your ears and pushing seeds in your soul. No, really, this album makes me float. I picked it up at the record store, got stuck in traffic and didn't give an ish cuz I was funkified and groovin' in psychedelic stereo nougatocity.
Wee!!!
