5.0 out of 5 stars Another great suspense novel from Carlene Thompson

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Her Best
I have to agree with another reviewer, J. Taylor that this is definitely not Ms Thompsons best effort. I usually enjoy this authors books, but this one was boring to me, and the diallogue was stilted and contrived . . . sappy even. It is more like a Victorian romantic suspense than a thriller mystery. And, I have to say the this authors earlier reads were the best...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great suspense novel from Carlene Thompson, March 14, 2009
This review is from: You Can Run... (Mass Market Paperback)
In a slight departure from her usual style, Carlene Thompson presents us with an intriguing and deadly puzzle. The protagonist, photographer Diana Sheridan, has taken over the care of 5-year old Willow after her close friend Penny, Willow's mother, is severely injured in a house explosion. She is aided by the kind but enigmatic Tyler Raines, who seems to appear whenever Diana needs him most. Diana receives support from others as well, including her great-uncle Simon, a retired archeologist (with whom she lives), and his new lady friend, Clarice. But as bits and pieces of Penny's secretive past begin to emerge, both Diana and Willow are becoming more and more endangered. Lurking behind a clever façade, a cunning killer is gaining ground, growing closer every minute. The final revelations are stunning, and the ending wildly satisfying. Once again, Thompson has written a novel I can sink my mind into and relish until the final page. Another great job.

I love, love, LOVE her books!! I own all of them and have a VERY hard time putting them down to do other things. You Can Run is another EXCELLENT story. She draws you in to the characters, they seem like real people, I cheer or cry along with the story line. She never fails to keep you guessing as to who the killer is all the way to the end!! Just when you think you have it figured out...surprise...it's someone else!! Can't wait for the next book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Carlene Thompson to date., March 26, 2009
This review is from: You Can Run... (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read all of Carlene's books and I have to say that this one is my favorite so far. The storyline is fast paced and keeps the reader guessing untill the end. I love the way that she uses her pets as characters in her books. Christabel and Romeo are stars!
I really enjoyed the way the book ended and how surprised I was to find out who the "bad guy" was.
The setting for this book is my hometown of Huntington,WV. Carlene does an amazing job of describing the beauty and history of our city.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Suspense Novel, March 13, 2009
This review is from: You Can Run... (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read most of Carlene Thompson's books, and I have never been let down. I have yet to be able to guess the villian before they are revealed. If you want a really good suspense novel, this one will not disappoint.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Thompson Fan, January 4, 2010
This review is from: You Can Run... (Mass Market Paperback)
I usually love Carlene Thompson's books, but this one was boring. I have to admit that I didn't get past page 100. Try All Fall Down or Last Seen Alive Instead- those were great!

4.0 out of 5 stars It was Good, November 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: You Can Run... (Mass Market Paperback)
Not her best, but good. This doesn't have a lot of blood and gore, and not a lot of suspense. This is more of a mystery. The books begins with Diana Sheridan's best friend's house exploding. Foul play is determined. Her friend is severely burned and in a coma. Diana begins to learn, she really doesn't know her friend at all. The reader and protagonist are uncovering what happened and why...at the same time. It's a mystery that unfolds. Written this way, the reader gets to spend a lot of time with the main characters, which was fine by me because I liked them. Even though the author didn't choose to write a really suspenseful book this time out, she has some twist and turns in this book. I couldn't figure out whodunit. I was surprised at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Page-Turner, April 25, 2009
This review is from: You Can Run... (Mass Market Paperback)
As Diana Sheridan heads over to Penny Conley's house after receiving a frantic call from her best friend, a traffic accident on the highway slows her down.

Finally reaching her destination, Diana is stunned to see her friend's house explode, severely burning Penny, and leaving onlookers to wonder at the whereabouts of Penny's daughter. Diana is well aware that if she had arrived on time, she too would have been in the house when it exploded.

After finding five-year-old Willow hiding in the woods, Diana takes her and Penny's elderly neighbor Clarice into her home. Diana lives with her great-uncle Simon Van Etton, the esteemed archeologist, and together they start unraveling the reason someone would want to harm Penny and Willow. Because Penny was Simon's research assistant, she had a special place in his heart, and the tragedy touched the newly knit family to the core.

As Diana and Simon dig into the possible reasons behind the tragedy, they find that Penny was not who they thought she was and that others are also seeking answers. When Diana realizes someone is following her, she is grateful for the unexpected help from a mysterious stranger. However, is he trustworthy or is he also out to destroy her as was her friend?

This is the first Carlene Thompson book I have read, but it will not be the last. She takes time to properly set the story and there is depth to her characters that gives the reader a sense that what they are reading really happened. Thompson is a compelling writer who keeps the pace moving, the clues coming, and the outcome hidden until the unexpected conclusion.
