I bought the Kindle version of this book. I had the crazy notion that the "included CD" would actually be included as maybe an MP3 or Audible file. Guess not! The whole reason I bought the book was because it was accompanied by the CD to help with the self-hypnosis. I think Amazon is really missing the boat if they don't include audio content on Kindle purchases that...

I wanted to read this book because I have always struggled with my weight since having my two children. Although more traditional diets have worked for me in the short term I never seem to be able to maintain the weight loss so I was fast reaching the conclusion that I needed to work on my mind as well as my body. Ursula James' book 'You Can Think Yourself Thin' came along at just the right time for me and I have been absolutely astounded by the effects of reading this book and listening to the hypnosis tracks. I had never tried anything like this before and was even a little skeptical but not any more!

The book works on the premise that if you are going to lose weight successfully you will need to deal with any issues you may have. These could include lack of sleep, your environment, relationships with others and your personal history. You may not think that there is anything you need to deal with but, as Ursula James says, if you only follow 20% of the suggestions you will be successful. All of the language in the book is extremely positive and as you are reading it you feel that she is addressing you directly. Everything she says is very thought provoking and even if it doesn't always appear relevant there is always something you can associate with it. There is also a lot of repetition which is good because it reinforces all the key messages she is giving. The most important message is all about taking control and this is a recurring theme in every chapter.

The book is broken up in to nine chapters which help you think about all the different stages of your life, starting with the past then moving into the present before addressing the future. All of these stages are accompanied by different tracks on a CD and you are told when to listen to these. There are a number of tasks which she asks you to do such as clearing out your wardrobe and dedicating at least an hour a week entirely for yourself all of which are helping you to create a positive self image.

The hypnotherapy tracks are amazing especially if you have not tried anything like this before. I was very impressed at how easily and seamlessly I was taken into a 'deep focused state' You don't always remember what has been said but the idea is that after you have listened your subconscious will work on the suggestions made while you are sleeping. After I got used to them I found that I really enjoyed these sessions and there were quite a few of them because although you only listen to the past and present tracks once, you are required to listen to the future track twenty one times. This is because apparently it takes three weeks to either make or break a habit. Also, the CD is always there for any future use particularly if you feel you are starting to fall into your former bad habits. I'm hoping I won't need to use it too often.

The effects that this book and the CD have had on me have been wonderful. I have been reading and listening for the last month and I really feel like I am a changed person and I have also lost ten pounds in weight without even trying. I no longer snack between meals and I am no longer finishing off all my young daughters' leftovers which was possibly my worst failing. It's not even as though my willpower has improved - it's just that I don't want to do these things any more. I seem to have lost my taste for sweet and sickly things, I have slowed down my eating and therefore improved my metabolism and I'm drinking much more water. Also my motivation for exercise has increased dramatically and I am no longer finding excuses for avoiding it. In fact now I'm actively looking for opportunities to exercise. I feel healthy and I also feel confident and I'm much more able to take difficult situations in my stride. Of course, the proof will be in how I feel three months for now but I do feel more positive that I will continue to lose weight and then maintain it.

I cannot praise this book enough and I really do feel that through reading it and following the instructions that it has changed me. I've also talked about it with so many friends who have all asked to borrow it but I'm afraid I told them to go out and get their own copies. This one's mine and I'm keeping it just in case I need a dose of positive thinking again!


NB I wrote this review about three months ago when it appeared on www.thebookbag.co.uk under my name. Since then I have lost a further eight pounds, I am a clothes size smaller and I still feel great!

I bought this on a whim, as I've tried others that were no good. Guess what! I lost 10 lbs without ANY effort!! Once that happened, I read around and found that others say teh same thing. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't done it myself. Brilliant book. If youve tried all the others and yo-yoed before - give this one a try. Got to use the CD though.

My friend from England told me about this book. She had lost 15 pounds and was absolutely thrilled. For years I have been trying different diets. Most of them worked, but then the old habits took over and there I was again - chubby, unhappy, finding comfort in chocolate cakes and pizzas. So I thought - what the hell? This won't hurt. I have to admit I was skeptical at the beginning, but to my surprise it worked! The book is easy to read and gives you a whole new perspective on the weight management issue. Instead of obsessing about the extra pounds and struggling with that permanent guilt over the bad eating habits, I realized that what I needed to do was relax, look at the bigger picture, and deal with the underlying issues. Now I feel like a new person. Not only have I lost ten pounds (and still counting!) - I also feel more confident and in control of my life. The CD was my favorite part - Ursula's voice is so gentle and soothing. And that lovely British accent... I definitely recommend this book to everyone who is serious not just about losing weight, but also making a long-term commitment to a happier and healthier life.

for a long time i have been trying to loose weight and like many others out there i have tried many diets and excercise.. now thanks to this great method of hypnosis i have finally managed to loose 20lbs. all in a month and i am so happy. i have definately changed the way i eat, no more snacks in between meals, drinking 6-8 glasses of water has never been more easy. i feel energetic and i find that i really want to do at least 30min. of exercise a day. i wake up in the morning feeling that every day will be a great day, and it is...best way to loose weight

I got this book as a present, and didn't hold out much hope for it as I have read so many of them. This is different - the hypnosis CD (with a lovely, gentle English voice!) really, truly, works to make the changes happen. I was not just overweight, but stressy and tired all the time. Now I feel like a different person 15 pounds lost and it is STILL working for me. I can't believe it. Buy it now - it works!

The CD tracks are positive, and help you feel more positive and in control throughout the day. Although I've skipped a few nights of listening to the CD, I am now in a habit of listening to it before going to bed. Ursula's soft voice and pleasant accent relax me so I can sleep well.

I've noticed small changes happening that I didn't intentionally desire... so I cannot help but conclude that her suggestions are working. I particularly like her suggestion that my subconscious find what works for me and then do more of it. I don't have to try one thing after another after another. That alone is a big relief for me! For example I haven't been eating many sweet things. I didn't really notice because I never really wanted them. There are other things I've noticed, too. It's great!

I imagine I'll be listening to this CD long after I lose weight just for the relaxation it offers.

Like some people, I have to lose some weight for looking great and also for having a good health!! I have found this book really by surprise one day on Amazon. I have already read some book about hypnotherapy for losing weight (Paul Mckenna, Marisa Peer...) and I was not impressed. I have to say that I was not disappointed because I didn't give a lot of hope in this kind of book ... BUT that was until I discover Ursula James.

I have read her book for about three weeks from now. I took my time because I read this on my travel for working (about 5 pages per day on my train). Her writing was simple, her words were clear... I was really impressed by how the word went on my mind and deeply in. Her analyze is well done. Unlike any other book about the same subject, she explains how the past, the present, our environnement, our family, our life affect us deeply and allow us to have a poor diet life.

There is three phase on her book:
First one: The Past
Second: The Present
Third: The Future

For each phase, you have to read a track on her CD. She really explains when you have to listen each track. After listen a track, you have to take a day off (no reading further her book). And after that, you go on. Between her phase, she give you some tips, some advice. She tells you to do some "exercise": Like throwing away your old shoes, taking an appointment each week with yourself ...

As for her CD track; her track doesn't contain any music. And as for me, this is perfect. You concentrate on her voice. Her voice is really clear; the ton is perfect, she take time to use every word. This is hypnotic. I have to say, that for her track I don't really remember every thing she said. I am ashamed to say that I feel like I fall asleep. I am deeply focused. What impresses me is that I remember counting from 10 to 1 and after black hole ... and I come back when she counts from 1 to 10 and she ask us to "wake up and open you eyes".

I have listened to all three tracks by now and I have to say that I LOVE THAT. After a long and stressful day, I always feel low. But every time I listened to the CD I feel so refresh. I have so more energy and even my men told me so. I feel like I have spent a whole day in a thalasso or a long night of good sleep.
As for the contain of the CD, like I say, I don't remember. But since I begin to read and listen to the book I didn't crave for bad food, chocolates ... I crave for one thing: GOOD FOOD. It's amazing. I didn't think it but I buy more fruits and more vegetables than before. I also found me wanted to care of myself.

It's amazing because I didn't listen yet her third track twenty one times like she asks. But I feel some improvement in my way to live day to day. She has her great impact on me even if I had to say I didn't really believe in this before. I feel like I have a lot of compliment, good word. I feel positive. I feel like I have less stress which has an impact on me.

About this book, I also love the fact that she didn't give you any diet plan. I remember that in Marisa Peer's book, you have to stop eating carbs and diary. I think this kind of book is a help to lose weight. Of course you have to do something else, but what I really enjoy is that Ursula James helps you on an emotional level, she didn't intend to be a nutritionist and that's great. You don't want to hear, eat that not that! Ursula James helps us to feel less ashamed about our body; she helps us to love it... And love it mean take care of it!! She tell us so much POSITIVE things !!

I will update this book in a few weeks when I will be over the program to see how deeply this had been a helpful tool to lose weight. (I have more that 35 pounds to lose).

This book has been really helpful in me realizing the problems that lead me to being overweight. I did not think the hypnosis tracks would work but they do. It is really subtle so you don't even have to work at it the changes happen subconsciously. Reading the book just makes you more aware of what needs to change so you are thinking about it consciously as well. I would recommend this book to anyone who has tried it all and have failed...This is definitely worth a shot!!!

This book and CD are a great motivator. The more I read it, the more my motivation to get thin increases. I have lost 18 pounds in the last 4 weeks. As I am older and somewhat deaf, I do have trouble understanding what Ursula is saying on the CD. I have to listen to it in the listening mode several times before using it as it is intended. I hope all who read this have as much success and pleasure with this book as I have had.

This is a great book if you want to lose weight without going on a restrictive diet or exercise to a frazzel. (is that a word??). The author shows you how to change the way you look at food and how you feel. As you go through the exercises you find yourself wanting to eat more healthy and exercise because you want to not because you feel like you have to. There is a CD included with the book which I believe is the real key. There are several tracks which you listen to as you go through the program ( they tell you at which point to listen to the different tracks) and the last track you can listen to just before you go to bed whenever you feel you need a little encouragement.
The program is not abstract theory. Ursula gives you specific exercises to do and tells you exactly how to do them. If you want to lose weight with very little effort, this book is the real deal. I highly recommend it.
