With help from Cohen, Olympic softball gold-medalist Douty shares the story of how she became a player on the first Olympic women's softball team. From her youth as a "problem" child to the 1996 Olympic game with China, when her home run won the game, Douty's story is one of perseverance and discipline. She studied at UCLA, graduating with honors and the distinction of being named an academic all-American. Having received her masters degree in physical therapy, she is now training for the 2000 Olympics, hoping someday to play professionally in the new Women's Professional Softball League. Because of the phenomenal growth of the sport, many young girls want to play the game, so, when not in training, Douty works with kids at softball camps and clinics. Her commonsense philosophy of hard work will help young sport enthusiasts as will her discussions of the sport history and the different field positions.
