This album represents some of the best work by this 1980's Glasgow band, headed by Edwyn Collins. The combination of Collins' smooth, dramatic vocals, simultaneously clever and catchy guitar hooks, up-beat pop sound, and surprisingly original heartbreak lyrics is infectious. Something like a 1950's #1 hit with a streak of the Buzzcocks, set to an 80's beat you can move or moan to. This solid album is a good introduction to this indespensible band who soar with jubilance while staying credible with a touch of melancholy.
