Classic release with the worst remastering,
By Jose Luis "Heavy Metal maniac" (Mexico City) - See all my reviews

While this release is an all-time Classic, the "Remastered" version is not recommended for those Twisted Sister Die-hard fans who want to listen to the real power of this band.
It's really sad how an excellent release is made crap due to a bad remastering work. Don't know what kind of "sound" engineers released this new version but they just made it sound horrible. So if you can get the old version (which has a better sound quality) just get it. Don't buy this SPITEFIRE version.

Raw but intense! Twisted Sister is an incredible band... The tracks on this album are just as I remembered, but I haven't heard them in years. I Am, I'm Me is about my favorite song on this project. It's flat out HEAVY with balls!!!! Every metal lover should get this and play it loud!!! Do neck exercises before you headbang... You WILL be sore!

My favorite Sister album,

It's hard now trying to remember Twisted Sister as 'underground' but that's exactly where they were on the release of this. Still unknown, and when their record company went bankrupt during 'Under the Blade', Dee and Co. had an uphill fight.
Well this album should have turned the world on it's ear. Atlantic records at first didn't pay them much attention, but after witnessing their live shows and the word got circulating about Great Britain at a fanatical rate, Atlantic decided to give these guys support on their next album, the legendary 'Stay Hungry". But what of this album? It rocks, roxx, rawks!!! The title track is the jewel of the album and must be cranked as loud as your stereo can possibly go. The raw power of this song is enough to shake the paint off the walls. The video was hilarious, the chorus is deafening, and the message is clear. This was the Sister's greatest moment in my book. But the rest of the album kicks ass too. I love 'Knife in the back'. That's a killer bass line Mark is laying down. "I'll take you Alive" is Dee at his fullest rage. "I am I'm me" stirred up things a little in England and "Suzette's Song" is by far Twisted's best ballad. All in all their is so much more to Twisted Sister than 'Stay Hungry'. If you like your meat and potatoes kind of rock n roll with strong backing vocals, awesome guitar work, and great drumming, you got to check this album out.

A Classic Heavy Metal Record,

If you have good ears for listening good songs, you must taste the best Twisted Sister's album. Dee Snider is angry - "Those fools are gonna know that we ain't bluffing". Like a Knife in the Back is one of the most perfect Heavy Metal songs, combining melody, phrases and a strong beat. If you're going put your car on the road, don't forget to listen Ride to Live, but take care about the speed... You Can't Stop Rock'n Roll - the song - says everything that a real band, as Twisted Sister, means to us, rock'n roll lovers. It is an album to listen as louder as you (and your neighbourhood)can support.

From the first track to the last (minus the bonus tracks), this cd slaps you in the face and makes you pay attention!! This cd should have been more popular than what it was but every metal head should be aware of this classic. The only weak track of the original ten, "You're Not Alone", is okay but not what you would expect from a real "heavy" metal band. All in all a definite addition to any metal collection.

I decided to get this for the bonus tracks but boy something weird going on. I have the Atlantic version and noticed this version has Vinyl cracking sounds on The Kids Are Back. This sounds like it was recorded off Vinyl.

The follow-up to their debut was another serious hard rock record that seemed to contradict Twisted Sister's often comical and garish stage and publicity look. However inside the inner sleeve of `You Can't Stop Rock `N' Roll" features a very street gang/Hell Angel's and above all dangerous looking rock `n roll band. Their second album while hard hitting was slight step downward after the ultra aggressive `Under the Blade'. Though the Sisters still dwelt in relative obscurity in most of their homeland; their temporary home was where they started to develop an international following and where Atlantic Records signed them in time to record album #2. The title track which was originally intended for the first record but held back became Twisted Sister's first MTV video but it was "I Am, I'm Me" that was the first UK single off the LP. One of the things that hurt the album slightly is the similarity between original album side openers "The Kids Are Back" and "We're Gonna Make It" although the former is the anthemic tune that a quality metal band needs for audience identification. "The Power and the Glory" and "Like a Knife in the Back" qualify as exceptional album tracks and power ballad "You're Not Alone" is above average. `YCSRNR' may not have been the overwhelming success Twisted Sister or Atlantic was looking for when their deal was made but that success would soon come with LP#3 and another song once slated for earlier release - "We're Not Gonna Take It". `Stay Hungry' would contain many of the same elements as its predecessor but for whatever reason the stars aligned in 1984. Good if not great early `80's British influenced American metal is not something haters expect from Twisted Sister (they expect the goofy Dee Snider poses and Bugs Bunnyesque videos) but true believers will be pleasantly surprised,

Great Album, Bad Remastering,

This review is from: You Can't Stop Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
Buyer beware, this was not remastered from the original master tapes, it was remastered from vinyl. You can hear the slight crackel on "The Kids Are Back" at the start of the song, just as the music is building up. My Wife heard it & she don't even have the ear for this sort of thing. Shame, shame on Spitfire.

Pulled this out of the old vinyl bin,
This review is from: You Can't Stop Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
It was a nice nostalgic trip pulling out a near mint condition vinyl copy of this album from my childhood stash. I remember listening to this album more than I thought I would over time.
"Stay Hungry" was silly and ruined things ultimately, but this album is the one TS album I listened to...secretly. It's got more of a 70's, hard rock style, with the obvious mid-80's pop metal influence creeping in...it's Sister's finest moment. They were a fun band who didn't take themselves too seriously, and to this day I'll never understand the "drag" side of hair metal bands, the back cover of this LP shows them in their "normal" attire (sleeveless jean jackets, big fro's) split in half with a picture of the band in their "sister" attire (i.e. drag). Good to see Dee still on the tube here and there, and that he still likes to rock and hasn't changed much. This album is very respectable for 70's and 80's metal, despite the drag queen biker-cheese.

This Should Have Been The Break Through Album,

"You Can't Stop Rock N' Roll" is a fantastic rock album. If this had been the follow up disk to "Stay Hungry" instead of "Come Out and Play", Twisted Sister would have cemented themselves atop the hair metal genre. I am not sure why this disk didn't receive the attention "Stay Hungry" did.
"The Kids are Back" - Great kick off to the disk, excellent guitar work, and really sets the tone for what is to come. "Like a Knife in the Back" - Not the best tune on the disk, but the chorus will get stuck in your head all the same. "Ride to Live, Live to Ride" - Great song, this should have been in heavy rotation on metal radio. This is the perfect song to crank up on the car stereo on a hot summer day. "I Am (I'm Me)" - Another awesome tune, and Dee's vocals really shine here. "The Power and the Glory" - Another rock anthem by a band that helped construct the blueprints of rock anthems. "We're Gonna Make It" - All about the power of Twisted Sister and their SMFs. "I've Had Enough" - Classic me against the world teen angst tune, perfect when you are 16 and pissed at the world. "I'll Take You Alive" - One of the few clunkers on an otherwise stellar disk. "You're Not Alone (Suzette's Song)" - A cool power ballad released in a time before they became a cliche. "You Can't Stop Rock n' Roll" - The title song is a great rock anthem, and is easily as good as "I Wanna Rock". **The copy of the disk I own is the original album, so I can't speak to the new material on the remaster, but the original album is well worth the under $10 price by itself** |
