Vocal Thunder From Down Under,
By NeverEver4Ever (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For You (Audio CD)
Okay, I've been a fan of American Idol since it's inception, then I was turned on to Canadian Idol at the end of it's third season, when I discovered there was an Australian Idol I started investigating. And first and third season OZ Idol winners Guy Sebastian and Kate DeAraugo have nothing on Miss Casey Donovan. The only reason I didn't give the album 5 stars is because there isn't a lot of musical versatility and I'm sure it was due to Casey being a new artist and that a lot of her material was selected for her instead of her writing her tunes instead. That being said, the winning single "Listen With You Heart" is beautifully sung and conveys so much passion. "What's Going On" is the best song on the album, an angsty breakup song that Casey pulls off effortlessly. Other highlights inclue "How Could I Fall (For That)", "Better To Love", "Something Beautiful", and her live performance from Australian Idol "Symphony Of Life". I can't wait to hear more from this talented young lady in the future and hope her new album carries more of the "What's Going On" theme.

WOW!! My Son LOVES this album!!,
This review is from: For You (Audio CD)
I listen to this album frequently! LOL! First off Casey knows HOW TO sing. Her voice isn't anything special but it takes a lot of listening to know why she won. Her voice knows how to personify emotion and it's really brillant. Her song "Better To Love" such amazing song. And her version of "Shine" is up to par with Clay Aiken's. She mixes the song with a rockier edge to "Shine" especially toward the end. I love it! Of course me being a teenager from America,NOBODY in my Son's High School is obsessed with "foriegn" Idols as he is so pretty much nobody knows who in the world Casey Donovan is! So there is no feeling of being "uncool" when listening to her!! I believe that Casey and Anthony should have both won! I bought both their albums and they're absolutely great! I would recommend this album to a pre-teen to early teen years. Not saying it's boppy, it really expresses what most teens usually go through. They are developing emotionally and the album's songs resemble their emotion levek. Great!

Young Talent - promising,
By

First off, let me address the 1 star ratings posted here: they do not provide any objective evidence to support their scores, and are no example of how a decent review should be written. I'll try to be more descriptive here...
To the album - I'm from the US and was fortunate enough to come across Casey and Anthony in Australian Idol. As one reviewer stated, Casey's album offers a nice variety of pop, ballads, and rock. I enjoyed the melodies, and find myself humming them from time to time. The songs are sung with such depth and interpretation... it's impressive this comes from a 16-yr old, who only made this album in 8 days. Most songs talk of love (and I hate sappy songs), but I thought Casey's interpretation connects well, espcially because there are moments of passion and anger. (You can listen to a 30-sec sample of each song on the album at this australian music site: www.hmv.com.au/product/rockpop.asp?sku=953493) Lastly, the variety in music really helps hold the listener's interests because you won't find yourself thinking that you're listening to the same thing again and again. On a side note, I'd like to say my favorite in the competition was Anthony, but I'm happy that Casey won. Casey certainly deserves more credit than she's getting - she's not even an adult, was pushed fast-forward into the music industry, and shallow people won't look past her looks to give her respect (I'm sure you haters are all super models and miss congenialities yourself!). SO many people talk about how low the record sales are, and jump onto this "high school" band wagon of "I'll look un-cool if I'm caught listening to Casey". Try being an individual for a change! Anthony and Casey are trying to live their dreams. Please check out their albums and support these young artists.

Casey is a star,

All Idol albums are rubbish. They are put together is 5 minutes, and made to appeal to a wide fan base. Maybe it's better that a talented performer come second in an Idol competition: get all the glory without the Idol mania that follows, and allowed room to make the album they deserve to.
That said, Casey the star shines through this album, which is patchy at best. The highs, however, are very high indeed. 'Flow' is one of the finest songs, and finest vocal deliveries I have ever heard. Likewise, 'What's Going On' and 'How Could I Fall For That' are powerful, and shades of what could have been. 'Better To Love' is vocally great, and "Symphony Of Life' is pure magic. Having seen her perform live many times now, I can happily report that although she is shy on stage, she always wows the crowd with her absolutely knock-out voice, self-deprecating humour (sometimes too much so) and beautiful spirit. This is a major artist, and one that is yet to prove what she can do. Funny that people mention the disapointing record sales because she actually notched up the top album sales of the year in Australia, but I guess people expect so much from an Idol winner. Hear this album for 'Flow' alone and be blown away by the vocal control and the range.

Good..but not her best..,

I was a huge fan of Casey's on Aussie Idol and while I find the cd to be pleasing..it is no way near her best. She never showed off her range. I was looking for some remakes (which I feel is essential for every Idol cd) and what I found..was just blah. It's an ok album...but not something worth the import fees.

Commercial Boredom,
By K.Dog (Australia) - See all my reviews

Casey Donovan is a talented performer and has an excellent singing voice, that said, this album is trash. The songs are faultless, but bland and forgettable as well. The album reeks of a mainstream playing-it-safe sound which is exacerbated by the rushed recording. These things are no fault of Casey's, they just highlight how the Idol method of fast production and no-depth leave shallow, indifferent footprints on the music landscape. Maybe Casey is a talented songwriter, in both music and lyrics. After listening to this album, you'd never know.

It's Beautiful!,

I love it when artists use heaps of styles on there albums a prime example would be Christina Aguilera's 'Stripped' which I found AMAZING! This one has some pop, some rock, some ballads and even a little country twang in one song. For an album made in 8 days this one surpasses even my respect for the young 16 year old who in my opinion will be around for awhile.

They're Better Down Under,

I'm from the US, but was in Australia during the Idol competition. I've never been much of a fan of the show in the States, and would never buy one of the Idols albums because they are so contrived and really aren't all that amazing. Even though Casey only had 8 days to record this album, I have to say it is far better than anything I've heard from an American Idol (although Kelly Clarkson's new one seems to be a little better than her first). Casey's roots are really in rock music and it definitely comes out in a handful of songs here. Having watched the show, Casey was definitely a stand-out vocally, but her image probably turned some people away. Nearly every time she sang, she had a moment that gave the listeners chills. She'll definitely be going to better places, I can't wait to see what her next album will turn out like, given more time and more influence. So, if you like the American Idols (and especially if you don't), you'll be blown away by Casey.

Ignore the Single,

If you ignore the 1st song on the CD, the single Listen With Your Heart and the last song which is a Live version of Symphony of Life from Australian Idol you actually have a really good CD.
Looking forward to hearing more from you Casey. You got my vote all along. Keep it real, youre a breath of fresh air in a stagnant world full of over produced pop music. I only gave the CD 4 stars due to the 1st and Last songs, personally I think they are just wrong on this CD.
