My favorite effort so far...,

I own everything Selah has recorded--at least everything that's available to buy. I've been listening to You Deliver Me for a day and a half, and it has catapulted to my favorite album. It is impossible to pick a "best" song because it is all of them.
I read that they decided to go back to their roots a bit and record an album similar to their first one, "Be Still My Soul," which was spare on the instrumentation and arrangements. This new CD has a feeling of the group gathered around Allan's piano, worshipping together. They do several familiar hymns, including "Standing on the Promises," "Glory to His Name," "My Jesus I Love Thee," "I Surrender All," and more, mixed in with newer worship songs, such as "How Deep the Father's Love," a breathtaking version of the Lord's Prayer, and a number of others. Oh, and there is always a Congolese song on each Selah CD--here it is "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus," which Todd's brother Jack and sister-in-law Molly sing on as well. Current and past members of Selah, particularly Todd and Nicol, have gone through absolutely shattering events in their personal lives in the last year or so. The songs on this album sound like people who have taken some of the worst pain in life and poured it out in praise to Jesus. Amazing. Breathtaking. This is also the first full-length CD with Amy Perry singing. Yes, her voice has a different sound than Nicol's, but it is gorgeous (and she sings the FIRE out of some hymns, people!) The harmonies between Amy, Todd, and Allan simply soar. Get this record! (but I advise buying a box of Kleenex to go with it!)

BRAVO! I have been waiting for this release with much anticipation. Though they've done other things, I felt like this was their first "real" release since "Hiding Place" and the "Greatest Hymns" (prior to Nicol's departure). Having heard Amy Perry's voice on a couple of tracks in the duets album, I knew that God had been in that choice for Selah and I was excited to hear this new release. Like their earlier albums, "You Deliver Me" has a mix of original songs and hymns (with a unique Selah flavor). They've continued their tradition of recording at least one song in Congolese. This, in my opinion, is what truly sets Selah apart. For me, the blend and variety of voices, styles, and instrumentation from track to track is what makes each Selah album a joy to listen to and sing along with over and over and over again. Like all the others, I LOVE this album! My children (ages 2 and 4) LOVE the "Standing on the Promises" medley, and I've cried my eyes out while listening to the deeply personal tracks: "Unredeemed" and Audrey's Song ("I will carry you"). I hadn't heard "God Be With You" in a long time. I'd forgotten how much I loved that song and I've been glad to revisit it! BRAVO!

This is another great album by Selah. As another reviewer pointed out, it's really their first "real" album since "Hiding Place", and it successfully carries on the group's music. They have both returned to their roots and branched out: for the former, there are no less than 6 of the 15 tracks that are hymns (possibly more...some sound like hymns but are unfamiliar to me). But some of the brightest spots are the two original recordings of the title track and "I Will Carry You", both of which strike me as having real hit potential. To my knowledge these are the first true original recordings of songs done by Selah, and I hope they will do more of it.
As for those who are disappointed that Amy Perry is not Nicol...I think she proves herself on this album. She carries many of the songs impressively and blends perfectly with Todd. Yes, her voice is different that Nicol's (more modern country/pop voice compared to Nicol's classical/jazz voice) but it works wonderfully. And she has an incredibly authentic sound...you just know she believes and deeply feels what she is singing. If that weren't enough, the album is also an excellent value, with no less than 15 tracks. I'm not sure which I want more...for Selah to get back in the recording studio, or stay on tour, hopefully performing somewhere near me!
