5.0 out of 5 stars safe as chocolate milk
...maybe the best "post modern" garage rock album since Capt. Beefheart's "Safe as Milk"...big funky bottom juxtaposed with Mick's angular white hot r-n-r guitar...rocket soul music...if the Captain had been the greatest black rock singer to walk the planet, instead of the greatest white blues singer, he and the original Magic Band might have sounded something like...

Let's just say these songs are not lyrically driven. So many songs sound unrehearsed, out of tune, though a few are amusing enough to keep some interest, "here comes that sound again," "cedar point '76," and "they hate us in scandinavia." I'm not sure why this collection leaves out their best tune, "Do You See My Love (For You Growing)"? Much is borrowed from The Stooges...

There are songs on here I'd have payed 15 bucks just for and nothing else, like "Here Comes That Sound Again" which is probably the best song Mick has ever written. However there are some songs on this that I would pay 15 bucks to never hear again, that just kill the vibe, as to be expected with any rarities comp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gimme dirt, baby!, August 4, 2005

I just saw the Dirtbombs last week in NYC and once again, they completely tore the roof of the joint. Once the double drummers kicked in, it was on! Within seconds, I was a pogoing sweaty mess.

From start to finish, Mick and the band put on an awesome display of rock excellence. And they managed to do it despite the fact that one of their 2 bass players had to run to the hospital with a sliced-open hand just a song or two into the set.

The Dirtbombs are rock deities.

I bow down. I bow down. I kiss their feet.

There is no question that the Dirtbombs are the current kings of the Detroit rock scene, as they have been for several years. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of other great bands coming out of the Motor City, but let's be serious, folks. It all begins and ends with this band.

Buy this collection of songs and douse yourself in some rock'n'roll kerosene!

This has a permanent home in slot 9 & 10 of my Jeep's disc-changer. I find it hard to believe you're hated in Scandanavia.

52 SONGS ON TWO CD'S FROM PROBABLY THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL BAND OF THE 21ST CENTURY SO FAR (NO MATTER WHO HAPPENS TO BE IN THE BAND AT THAT PARTICULAR POINT IN TIME, AS LONG AS IT HAS MICK COLLINS). THIS CD IS A COMPILATION OF SINGLES AND RARITIES. A FEW OF THE RECORDINGS ARE HORRIBLE AND IMPOSSIBLE TO LISTEN TO, BUT THE OTHER ONES WILL JUST BLOW YOU AWAY. I LOVE ANYTHING FROM THE DIRTBOMBS, THEY ARE THE REAL DEAL.

...no one punches you in the mouth like the Dirtbombs. If this one doesn't get your blood pumping, you're already dead and just don't know it yet.

I'm not sure why this collection leaves out their best tune, "Do You See My Love (For You Growing)"? Much is borrowed from The Stooges and early Pere Ubu (Rocket from the Tombs), which offers nothing new. Mick Collins says the best stuff is on compilations, if he's right; (which he's not) try The Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit lp, which is the best Detroit has this side of the White Stripes.
