"It's great to be here in Germany",
By newfound32 (los angeles ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Don't Come Close (Audio CD)
This recording took place on September 11, 1978 on the German television show "Musikladen". Although only this concert is 24 minutes long, I still think its one of the best. The audio work in this cd is very clear and sounds great. I have seen the video version of this concert and it makes me love it even more. It would have been better if the concert was longer or if they added another concert but it is still a great album. I love the fac that these songs are played very fast with no break at and Dee Dee shouting 1-2-3-4! This concert plays all the classics from the Ramones first 4 albums. The only song I really wanted them to play was "I wanna be sedated". But they still play some great classics. It is just pure-fast-punk you just have to heir it again and again. This concert is definitley the Ramones at there best live. This album might seem pricey, but in the end it is all worth it. HEY HO, LETS GO!
Since the tracks aren't shown here. Here they are. 01. Teenage Lobotomy 02. Blitzkrieg Bop 03. Don't Come Close 04. I Don't Care 05. She's The One 06. Sheena Is A Punk Rocker 07. Cretin Hop 08. Listen To My Heart 09. California Sun 10. I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You 11. Pinhead 12. Rockaway Beach (enhanced music video)

A Sizzling Performance for TV,
This review is from: You Don't Come Close (Audio CD)
This is a neat release from a couple of angles; it is the Ramones on a 1978 promotional "gig" for German TV (call to a "live" music video, if you wish) and - from a historical perspective - a means to hear how bands would supplement tours with "free" performances to reach a larger audience.
The 11 tracks clock in at 24 minutes, but the power and energy is nothing short of high-octane and is slightly less than one-half of the usual set the band would perform in concert. The music video for Rockaway Beach is also included. The Ramones only knew one speed to perform - no matter the venue - and this is a solid look at a band that never took a night off or shifted things into cruise control.

Gabba Gab....oh you get it,
This review is from: You Don't Come Close (Audio CD)
Sure it's short but what regular Ramones album isn't? This album has a wide "Total Ear Sound" to it. You can hear everyone in the band clearly and Dee Dees backround vocals are just as loud as Joeys and sound great. Best Version of "I Don't Care" ever! Only live version of "Don't Come Close" i've ever heard and it's much heavier than the album version. Joeys british inflections and vocal clipping and all that other weird crap he does's is all used to great effect here. if you're a Ramones freak like me then you've heard all these songs done to death but these are great versions. also i don't know of annother Ramones live record from the 70's with Marky on drums. And yes that IS a big deal

This CD contains energy in levels that you have never heard before. Joey's voice is amazing, the set-list is great and Johnny's guitar sound is PERFECT! The only thing bother me, is that this CD is not the full concert. I have the full concert on a bootleg CD and on a DVD. But even if it's not full, it's great. This concert is also available on the It's Alive 1974-1996 DVD (not the full concert, neither).
Own it! Here's the full set-list of this concert: 1. Rockaway Beach 2. Teenage Lobotomy 3. Blitzkrieg Bop 4. I Don't Want You 5. Go Mental 6. Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment 7. You're Gonna Kill that Girl 8. Don't Come Close 9. I Don't Care 10. She's the One 11. Sheena Is a Punk Rocker 12. Havana Affair 13. Commando 14. Needles & Pins 15. Surfin' Bird 16. Cretin Hop 17. Listen to My Heart 18. California Sun 19. I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You 20. Pinhead 21. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue |
