I recently finished reading this book and I must say it was a disappointment. After reading all the great reviews, I decided to order it. I am not a fan of triathlons, 5K's, 10K's etc., so I had trouble focusing on this book. It had most of the usual info. that a diet/exercise book has, but it did not motivate me at all because I don't lead (or care to lead) her...

When ready, everyone needs to start somewhere, & Judy Molnar's: You Don't Have to Be Thin to Win, is certainly a good place to do just that. No fads, just facts. She shares, unselfishly, her personal struggles with balancing diet and exercise and also touches on - even her need- to feel acceptance. There are charts, tips, workout schedules, basic nutritional information, inspirational success stories (besides her own), photos, quotable quotes, and answers to some commonly asked questions and concerns. Whether you are just curious to see what a training day in "the life of Judy" is, want to view some of her race photos, or just need help training yourself, she is the coach, athlete and inspiration. She gives us some links to check out on the internet and suggests some other ways to find out all about living a healthy lifestyle. You can even check out her own web site for additional advice and support. As a fellow athena triathlete, going into my third season, I found this book to be very reassuring, occasionally fresh, always inspirational, helpful, and sometimes down right funny (ergo "goose poops" :)!-You'll have to read the book for that one). This book may seem to be about Judy but in essence, it is about YOU - about YOUR DREAMS, and YOUR OWN need to make some life decisions. After all, the operative word in the title is "You". If we learn by example, she is a good one to follow. Because, as she found out, you do NOT have to be thin to win...just determined. A good book by this recent pioneer of the Athena racing world and co-author Bob from "Competitor Magazine". A fast and easy read with useable information. Great for beginners and a nice refresher course for the rest of us - FINALLY!

As a 28 year old women who has struggled with her weight for most of her life. My first thought when sitting down to read a galley copy of this book was "Oh great just one more Health book that I will never finish". But to my delighted surprise that was not the case. Not only did I finish it, but I re-read it. I was amazed to find That The author had had actually "walked the walk" She had been in my shoes. She had felt the same as I. She understood the pain of yo yo dieting. She understood the reclusiveness that comes with obesity. She had experienced the same low self esteme. Thus begain a wonderful kindred ship. With every chapter I found myself more and more involved. She was not just an author, but a friend that I had been through a lifetime of struggles with. As she told of her experiances in college where her weight was never low enough for her volleyball coach. To her losses in love because her boyfriend didn't want to date a fat person anymore. I new that this author was differant. She was one of us. She had walked the walk so she could talk the talk. Then the realization of what her book was about set in. She had suceeded where most of us fail. She had beat the obesity bug. How. Not with a diet drug or diet drink or even a diet. She suceeded by simply vowing to live a healthy life, full of good foods and excercise. In this book she is able to show through easy reading and positive instruction how anyone and everyone can do the same. Her step bye step chapters and inspirational Personal journal exerts prove that there is hope out there. When Judy Molnar says "You don't have to be thin to win" I believe her. Why? Because she is living proof that it is true. This Book has given me the inpiration and hope I have been searching for for what seems a decade. This book has changed my life. Now let it change yours!

I am pleased to say that I have read "You Don't Have to be Thin to Win" by Judy Molnar. I feel this book can help put the pieces together for anyone who reads it. The pieces needed to be healthy and succeed are hard to put together. Yet, Judy Molnar in her book simply takes the pieces needed one by one and gives a simple guide to find health and to win. I found the book very easy to read and very helpful. I have never met Judy but feel after reading the book that I know her. The caring advice in the book shows Judy cares about health. Judy is a person who struggled yet found the way to piece together a plan to succeed in life. She tells of her struggles and success. There are many in this world who need someone to take their hand and lead them with simple steps to become healthy. With this book, Judy gives you the hand and takes the steps with you to succeed. Each of us have different goals but health is the main goal. "You Don't Have to be Thin to Win" gives common sense advice. I will use this book for inspiration in the days ahead and years ahead while putting the pieces together myself to become healthier. What more could a book give than to give you inspiration and a way to take steps toward success to win? I recommend this book because of its inspiration, its touching story and its simple guide to health.

I don't read a lot of self help books...but I had read about Judy Molnar and how she lost 130 pounds without dieting, how she changed her life by learning more about herself, more about nutrition and more about exercise. I found her book 'You don't Have To Be Thin To Win' not only inspiring, but also educational. Molnar identified the steps needed to take control of your life. Contrary to another review on this site, this book was not about Judy Molnar completing the Ironman Triathlon, it was about Judy Molnar's decision to radically change the way she lived. I personally found it amazing that this woman- who weighed over 330 pounds at one point- could have the patience to go from barely being able to walk around the block to something as extreme as the Ironman Triathlon in just a few short years. She certainly is a living, breathing example that with goal setting and willpower, anyone can accomplish anything. I think this book is a must read for anyone looking for that push out the door, for the motivation to create goals of their very own.

REading this book I felt like I was reading about someone who had been there, done that and truly knew how I was feeling each time I tried and felt defeated. Judy helped me to see that no matter where I was today with my weight and health that I too could be a winner. At 55 I felt for the first time, I can walk one step at a time until I could run, yes, I can be a winner no matter what size I am. Thank you Judy the book is a Winner and an inspiration to all.

As a woman who overcame years of struggle with obestity, it is great to see someone else who lost weight realistically, correctly and changed not only her body but her life! I don't know that I have what it takes to become the competitive athlete that she has, but with in my soccer mom, wife and career woman world, I have managed to lose 130 lbs, get fit and tone and help thousands of others do the same with my book. Judy will help anyone wanting self improvement as well. Anyone looking for inspiration, will love this book! I sure wish I had been chosen as Rosie's chub club coach! What an honor, what a career boost! Go Judy! Awaken the Diet Within is another book that may also inspire someone wanting to lose weight in a simple, honest easy approach!

I ran into this book at the Health Science Library that is part of the Health Sciences Center. I liked the many examples from real people. My life experience has been much like the author's and I can relate to her life pattern of college athletics, sedentary job, accident, and now trying to get it all pulled together in terms of exercise and weight control. I too am motivated by "goals" and found this section of the book very helpful. I liked the sample training program and the explanations for the investment (e.g.,personal trainer, doctor's check up, etc.). Great book. A "Godsend" book for me.

Reading this book was a Godsend for me. As I was reading Judy's words,I thought she was writing about me. In fact she was writing about me.Her words spoke to me and it made me feel as if the burdens of weight loss, being unhealthy were things that I could confront and deal with. As I got further into the book, I realized that making the change in my life begins with me, but more than that. It begins with a belief and a faith that I can do it! And I have done it, and I'm still doing it. I've gone from 288 pounds to 225. And let me tell you, the freedom that comes with taking pride in yourself, in your body, in you is awesome. This book does not talk down to you, it does not lecture you nor does it make you feel as if going for the gold is a difficult and unattainable goal. In fact, it makes you want to put the book down, go out there and begin the journey to a healthy life. I hope everyone has the opportunity to read this book and know that it can make a major difference in your life. It's not about being thin and appealing for the outside world. It's about getting healthy and being the best that you can be. For yourself....and that's what this book is all about... If you read it, I promise you, you'll be a winner in no time. Thanks Ms. Molnar for a great, and positive book. Please please please.. do a sequel... I await for it anxiously.

Just like Judy, this book is a winner. I can't believe that Judy opened up her life like that. To show the wounds and how they healed. I loved the fact that so many photos were included. It is great to have a role model that does not looking like a pencil.This book touched on all aspects of getting healthy and getting fit. I loved all the inspirational quotes and stories. It was great reading the stories of other people on striving to reach their goals also. I admit I am President of the Judy Fan Club. LOL. I saw JUdy for the first time on the Rosie Show and cried when "This is My Moment" was Sung to her". She deserve all the accolades.She has helped so many with this book and by opening her heart to all. Judy has helped me so much. I will be attempting to do a marathon my self this year for the very first time thanks to the motavation of this book and Judy's guidance. This book is sure to be a best seller. If any of you have any doubts about yourself and your ablilities to do what you dream.. this book will help you. It is a very easy read lots of great information and yet speaks to the heart.

It had most of the usual info. that a diet/exercise book has, but it did not motivate me at all because I don't lead (or care to lead) her athletic lifestyle. I figured that since she was overweight like me, I would be able to relate to her story, but I couldn't. She had been an athlete all of her life. I, on the other hand, have been sedentary all of my life. She did, however, have a reference section and list of websites on nutrition, eating disorders, etc. I hate to give a bad review to a book that everyone seems to love so much, but for those of you out there that don't share her lifelong love of athletics, I wouldn't want you to waste your money. I truly admire her and the fact that she wrote a book about her tremendous weight loss, but I just could not relate to this book. For anyone out there who wants to read a really good, informative and interesting book on nutrition, weight loss and exercise, I highly recommend Strong Women Stay Slim by Miriam Nelson.
