5.0 out of 5 stars A new kind of game show for a new age, March 9, 2000
This review is from: You Don't Know Jack XXXL (CD-ROM)
_You Don't Know Jack_ has risen from a small diversion destined for the discount bin to a cultural phenomenon which rivals Lara Croft. This collection will introduce you to the basics of the series, and give you a wealth of questions that will keep you playing for hours.

What makes _Jack_ such a fun experience is not merely that it provides a moderated game show environment akin to what one can find on televised game shows like _Jeopardy!_. Rather, it is that it takes the standard TV game shows and turns them on their ears. This is a game show that makes fun of its own genre--and the American culture which spawned it. In the process, it manages to be a truly novel offering. Instead of having a standard question-and-answer format, the _Jack_ series thrives on throwing you curve balls. Just when you get confident with answering multiple choice questions, _Jack_ has you actually type the answer (and spelling counts). Or you get a JackAttack (tm) question or a Threesome question, or any one of the other question styles.

In short, _Jack_ wins through because it is the first game show to be originally designed for and to take advantage of the multimedia potential of home computers. In an age of merchandising tie-ins from TV and movies, it's refreshing to see publishers attempt something unique to the medium--and succeed so fabulously well doing so.
