Vinyl aficionados already know that Jim Croce's albums on vinyl are a well-recorded delight of vocals and at times sparse instrumentation, but this new Friday Music 180g pressing is an absolute wonder.

"New York's Not my Home," "Photographs and Memories," "Operator" and others on this album have simply not sounded this good before, at least compared to the copies of Croce's albums I've been able to obtain on vinyl AND CD. The pressing is lively and delightfully quiet with zero pressing noise and comes in a very nice reprint of the original album cover.

Thanks, Friday Music for bringing the music of this wonderfully talented singer/songwriter who left us far too early back to vinyl, and I certainly hope you'll reissue the balance of the Croce collection.

Jim Croce was a master at crafting a song. The prosity between music and lyric is uncanny. The Lyrics to songs like "Box #10", "New York's Not My Home" or "Time in a Bottle" are both sophisticated and eloquent. I cannot imagine where Croce would stand in our musical society if he had not been untimely killed in a plane crash. If you do not own this album, get it quick. You have a "heart-back guarantee", and believe me, you won't need it. You will become a Croce disciple!

This is the first of three albums released. It is so unique, as is the artist. Lyrics that tug at your heart and make you laugh, put together with the fantastic music created by Jim and Maury. two absolutely dynamic musicians. Would so recommend!

"You Don't Mess Around With Jim", Croce's 1972 debut, could easily pass for a greatest hits album from the late, great Jim Croce, climbing to no#1 on the charts - this album is simply almost perfect, featuring the classic songs, "Tommorrow's Gonna Be A Brighter day", "Photographs And Memories", "Walkin' Back To Georgia", "New York's Not My Home", "Operator (that's not the way it feels)", and the timeless "Time In A Bottle", plus countless others on here that reveal the great singer-songwriter as Jim Croce really was, a true-blue musician who enjoyed what he was doing. This expanded edition includes the original album and never before released tracks on the first side, along with a second disc featuring more classic Croce, including wife Ingrid on half of the songs. "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" is worth the price of admission alone on this import with excellent remastered sound. (keep in mind that only this Castle import from England includes two disc with extra tracks.)

"You Don't Mess Around With Jim" was Jim and Maury's first major-label debut together (and Jim's first as an artist). What a debut! There are not many artists who combine real-life stories with incredible music. The guitar work alone is fantastic. Add in some of the most quality lyrical stories in modern music and you get near perfection. Jim and Maury unfortunately were taken before their time. Lucky for us, they left us with some amazing music.

I got my first copy of this album back when Jim was actually still alive (yeah, a long time ago) and I've worn out multiple copies of it. There are so many excellent tracks here, but unfortunately, there also Box #10, which, for whatever reason, always irritated me from the first time I heard it.

Still, one bad track on an album is a damn fine ratio, in my opinion, and you really can't go wrong picking this album up.

I was very happy to find this item. I had the 8 track when I was young and have been unable to find the CD. I was Very pleased with the quality. Almost every song I like on this can be found in various other albums and 'Best of' types but this arraingement is the one that brings back the memories of 'That summer'.
