5.0 out of 5 stars Lost 1950s country gold!, November 19, 2002
This review is from: If You Don't Somebody Else Wil (Audio CD)
Wow! I only picked this CD up because it was something new from Bear Family, and 'cuz it looked cool. Imagine my ecstasy when I discovered that these guys were part of Webb Pierce's regular songwriting stable in the late '50s... not only that, but one of these fellows went into a performing and composing partnership with Wayne Walker -- one of my favorite Webb songwriters -- and there are demo tapes here to prove it. GREAT STUFF in a variety of styles, including ultra-twangy, uptempo honkytonk, Everly-esque teenpop, and out-and-out rockabilly. They even poke fun at their patron, Webb Pierce, on "Sweet Singin' Daddy." HIGHLY recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars "KINGS OF TWANG HEAVEN......AND THAT'S GOOD!!!", November 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Every song is perfect;clever lyric's, and some are funny! when the first Johnny ( 'Country' Johnny Mathis ) left, the other Johnny's were just as good.
There are a few good Rock-a-Billy songs included in this CD. All the musicians are REAL Pro's;electric guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, piano ( lot's of tremolo's ) These guy's are great at sustaining those long harmonizing vocal notes, like singing Brothers.
I've been listening to this "REAL' Country music ever since Radio station:KEEN 1370 (San Jose) came on the air in 1947 ( I was 6 then )
On my show (KPOO 89.5 fm ) at that time(June 1977) I only had one 45 ( CHESS) ;"If You Don't, Somebody Else Will"/"I'm Beginning to Remember" in
which I played both sides. A couple of the songs are different takes from the released version which are also here, of course. It's not too easy to tell
the difference between the 2 versions, because these guy's are so on the money, on every take. This CD play's for over 76 minutes.
Alway's my favorite is;" I'm Beginning To Remember"( A mournful sad lost love song ) That's just ONE of the reason's this CD, makes me HAPPY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars RIP Jimmy Lee Fautheree, December 14, 2004
Is Jimmy Lee Fautheree (the Jimmy here, amongst several "Johnnies" and one "Wayne") the most underappreciated country & western / rockabilly guitarist EVER? Could be! Sadly we lost Jimmy in 2004. He recorded a new CD with the fantastic Deke Dickerson (entitled "Found the Doorknob" after a tune following-up the original "Can't Find the Doorknob" included here) which showed his singing and playing chops intact. Jimmy Lee is one the first great Tele twangers and his solos are featured throughout this extensive Bear Family compilation of hillbilly laments, honky tonk dance tunes and some precious raw rockabilly. No collection of rockabilly is complete without "Love Me," "True Love on My Mind" and "Doorknob" and they are all here.
