Book Description

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson comes a gripping novel of suspense where a mother's worst fear is only the beginning of a terrifying nightmare. . .

In Ava's dreams, her son, Noah, looks just the way she remembers him: a sweet two-year-old in rolled-up jeans and a red sweatshirt. When Ava wakes, the agonizing truth hits her all over again. Noah went missing two years ago, and has never been found. Almost everyone, including Ava's semi-estranged husband, assumes the boy drowned after falling off the dock near their Church Island home.

Ava has spent most of the past two years in and out of Seattle mental institutions, shattered by grief and unable to recall the details of Noah's disappearance. Now she's back at Neptune's Gate, the family estate, her strength slowly returning. But as Ava's mind comes back into focus, she can't shake the feeling that her family, and her psychologist, know more than they're saying. Are they worried for her well-being--or anxious about what she might discover?

Ava secretly visits a hypnotist, hoping to restore her memories. But the strange visions and night terrors keep getting worse. She is sure she's heard Noah crying in the nursery, and glimpsed him walking near the dock. Is she losing her mind, or is Noah still alive? Ava won't stop until she gets answers, but the truth is more dangerous than she can imagine. And the price may be more than she ever thought to pay. . .

1.0 out of 5 stars You don't want to read September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story could have been told in half the space. The author's repetitive phrasing was not only annoying, but also needless. The internal and infernal agonizing of the main character as to her sanity became laughable. A thriller? Not even a little bit. Let's just call it a yawner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner! August 9, 2012
A mother's worst nightmare has come true for Ava Garrison. Her son Noah disappears in the dead of the night. No traces of him are found and everyone assumes that he fell into the water. Ava, who has always been confident, breaks down and her husband commits her. Ava is eventually brought back to her home, Neptune's Gate, which sits on an island. Ava is virtually the sole owner except for her paralyzed cousin, Jewel-Anne who is the only one that hasn't sold out to her. Now that Ava is home, she starts to hear and see Noah everywhere on the grounds.

After thinking she sees Noah on the dock, Ava takes a plunge in the icy waters hoping to rescue him. Now the family is thinking that it is time to commit her again. But Ava knows that something isn't right and that her son isn't dead. With the help of a new hired hand, Austin Dern, Ava slowly starts to peel back the memories that she once thought lost to her. Is she really crazy or is someone trying to make her believe she is. Ava has her share of enemies around her from her philandering husband, Wyatt to her cousin, Jewel-Anne, who holds her personally responsible for her being paralyzed. The problems become more complicated when bodies start showing up, all of which are linked to Ava somehow. She becomes the prime suspect and her and Dern must figure out what is going on before it is too late.

Austin Dern has his own secret agenda and he never would have thought that Ava would be part of it. As his search for the elusive asylum escapee, Lester Reece, gets hot, Dern starts to unravel clues that Reece might be linked to Ava's problems too.

You Don't Want to Know has many twists and turns, and the reader is compelled to keep turning the pages to discover who is behind the dastardly scheme.

1.0 out of 5 stars HOW MANY ADJECTIVES CAN YOU USE IN A SENTENCE March 25, 2013
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am not familiar with this author and I thought this sounded like a good read. After 50 pages, I am doing the unthinkable and calling it quits. In my opinion, Ms. Jackson trips and stumbles on nearly every sentence with unnecessary descriptions of the mundane and unnecessary...for instance..."and fell into the pillow-top mattress"...c'mon...why not just give the brand while we are at it! Ava is unsympathetic and truly whacky...I could care less at this point what happens to anyone on Church Island! Yuck....maybe I should write a novel while I rest upon my non-pillow top mattress with my 200 count sheets and 9 perfect nails and one chipped thumb stricking the black keys of my intel processor laptop....aahhhh

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustratingly Disappointing October 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read many Lisa Jackson books, but this is definitely her worst. It was about 200 pages too long with tiresome repetitive prose, sophomoric characters and an insultingly stupid plot.

I have learned through sad experience that once an author "makes it", they are no longer hungry for success. They become plot and character lazy and lose respect for the intelligence of their readership. Too many fat cats out there with NYT best sellers. I try to find first time authors now and many of them are superior writers to the famous ones.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utterly disappointing August 27, 2012

I am an avid reader but I do not normally submit reviews on books I love or hate but this book was so bad that I repeatedly had to go back and check that it was written by Lisa Jackson and that it was not a very early effort being re-published. (I have to say that to me it still feels like it was a very early unsuccessful effort).

I could not get into the story, nor the characters - they had no qualities that connected with the reader - you didn't love them or hate them - you were just simply indifferent to them and to the story which was unbelievably long and boring. I must admit that after repeated attempts I just could not make it through the entire book, I would skip entire sections.

I enjoy Lisa Jackson's books - normally look forward to each new release and purchase them as soon as they come out. There are always some books from an authour that you don't like as much as others but this book was so far off the norm that I am afraid it will make me think twice before I purchase the next new realease by Lisa Jackson.
Ava was such a lack lustre character that even the return of Noah did not really generate any feeling or sense that this was right and just. Sadly just glad the book was finally done.

2.0 out of 5 stars TORTURE September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have enjoyed a few of Lisa Jackson's books in the past so I thought I would give this one a go. The story, in theory, sounded great and even while I was reading it I thought it had potential. However...after the fortieth time of hearing, "... I know someone is trying to gaslight me..." and her continual struggle with, "... maybe I am crazy..." I began to get frustrated and annoyed. Spoiler alert: halfway through, based on how she was treated by her entire family (really, people would be so rude to someone suffering a loss????) I knew that it had to be more than one person setting her up. I struggled through the entire book and only finished it to see if it was as predictable as I had assumed. Again the story line had so much more potential than how it turned out. I am sad to say I would not recomment this book, but Lisa's book: Unspoken was a good read.
