Book Description

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson comes a gripping novel of suspense where a mother's worst fear is only the beginning of a terrifying nightmare. . .

In Ava's dreams, her son, Noah, looks just the way she remembers him: a sweet two-year-old in rolled-up jeans and a red sweatshirt. When Ava wakes, the agonizing truth hits her all over again. Noah went missing two years ago, and has never been found. Almost everyone, including Ava's semi-estranged husband, assumes the boy drowned after falling off the dock near their Church Island home.

Ava has spent most of the past two years in and out of Seattle mental institutions, shattered by grief and unable to recall the details of Noah's disappearance. Now she's back at Neptune's Gate, the family estate, her strength slowly returning. But as Ava's mind comes back into focus, she can't shake the feeling that her family, and her psychologist, know more than they're saying. Are they worried for her well-being--or anxious about what she might discover?

Ava secretly visits a hypnotist, hoping to restore her memories. But the strange visions and night terrors keep getting worse. She is sure she's heard Noah crying in the nursery, and glimpsed him walking near the dock. Is she losing her mind, or is Noah still alive? Ava won't stop until she gets answers, but the truth is more dangerous than she can imagine. And the price may be more than she ever thought to pay. . .

1.0 out of 5 stars You don't want to read September 6, 2012
By MK McC

This story could have been told in half the space. The author's repetitive phrasing was not only annoying, but also needless. The internal and infernal agonizing of the main character as to her sanity became laughable. A thriller? Not even a little bit. Let's just call it a yawner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner! August 9, 2012
Format:Hardcover
A mother's worst nightmare has come true for Ava Garrison. Her son Noah disappears in the dead of the night. No traces of him are found and everyone assumes that he fell into the water. Ava, who has always been confident, breaks down and her husband commits her. Ava is eventually brought back to her home, Neptune's Gate, which sits on an island. Ava is virtually the sole owner except for her paralyzed cousin, Jewel-Anne who is the only one that hasn't sold out to her. Now that Ava is home, she starts to hear and see Noah everywhere on the grounds.

After thinking she sees Noah on the dock, Ava takes a plunge in the icy waters hoping to rescue him. Now the family is thinking that it is time to commit her again. But Ava knows that something isn't right and that her son isn't dead. With the help of a new hired hand, Austin Dern, Ava slowly starts to peel back the memories that she once thought lost to her. Is she really crazy or is someone trying to make her believe she is. Ava has her share of enemies around her from her philandering husband, Wyatt to her cousin, Jewel-Anne, who holds her personally responsible for her being paralyzed. The problems become more complicated when bodies start showing up, all of which are linked to Ava somehow. She becomes the prime suspect and her and Dern must figure out what is going on before it is too late.

Austin Dern has his own secret agenda and he never would have thought that Ava would be part of it. As his search for the elusive asylum escapee, Lester Reece, gets hot, Dern starts to unravel clues that Reece might be linked to Ava's problems too.

You Don't Want to Know has many twists and turns, and the reader is compelled to keep turning the pages to discover who is behind the dastardly scheme.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustratingly Disappointing October 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read many Lisa Jackson books, but this is definitely her worst. It was about 200 pages too long with tiresome repetitive prose, sophomoric characters and an insultingly stupid plot.

I have learned through sad experience that once an author "makes it", they are no longer hungry for success. They become plot and character lazy and lose respect for the intelligence of their readership. Too many fat cats out there with NYT best sellers. I try to find first time authors now and many of them are superior writers to the famous ones.

2.0 out of 5 stars TORTURE September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have enjoyed a few of Lisa Jackson's books in the past so I thought I would give this one a go. The story, in theory, sounded great and even while I was reading it I thought it had potential. However...after the fortieth time of hearing, "... I know someone is trying to gaslight me..." and her continual struggle with, "... maybe I am crazy..." I began to get frustrated and annoyed. Spoiler alert: halfway through, based on how she was treated by her entire family (really, people would be so rude to someone suffering a loss????) I knew that it had to be more than one person setting her up. I struggled through the entire book and only finished it to see if it was as predictable as I had assumed. Again the story line had so much more potential than how it turned out. I am sad to say I would not recomment this book, but Lisa's book: Unspoken was a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars More thriller than romantic suspense August 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Imagine being on an island with multiple people you can't trust, while still trying to search for your child who has been missing for two years. That's reality for Ava Garrison or is it? She sees Noah her missing child by the docks and even hears his voice in the house. Questioning her own sanity and her psychologist motives Ava seeks help from a hypnotist. Everyone thinks Noah drowned that awful night, will Ava find out differently or is she destined to once again be placed in a mental institution.

Bookswagger Danielle: Four Crowns, good read, on the way to swagger. This was almost a five crown what held me back was the length of time of the back story and the romance portion.

When I received my advanced readers copy I did a shimmy, shake and a watered down version of the fist pump. A.K.A I was excited. The book didn't disappoint. I will be honest the first part of the book was solely focused on building the back story and really building the question of was Ava simply crazy. I urge readers to hang in there because it is worth it. I do want to caution if you are looking for a romance book then this isn't for you this is a suspense thriller although lumped into the romantic suspense category. Ava was already married to Wyatt when the story began which made it a little awkward when she began to have feelings for Austin Dern. Thankfully the author didn't focus on the awkward romance in fact for all the details that were put into the plot the romance portion seemed to be almost an afterthought. Even though my favorite genre is romantic suspense I almost wished the author would have left it out because it didn't seem to fit.

I found myself blown away by her writing style. However, what really made this book great were the intricate details.

More About the Author

#1 NYT and USA TODAY bestselling author Lisa Jackson started writing after her sister read an article in TIME Magazine in 1981 about how young mothers were making money writing romance novels. Both Lisa and her sister, Nancy Bush, began their writing careers right then, and lo, these many years later Lisa has published seventy-five plus novels and has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
