Not His Best,
By DW (chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Gotta Problem With Me (Audio CD)
While the songs on You Gotta Problem with Me are tighter than recent indulgences, the lack of a real drummer makes for a drab album. Most songs sound like demos. There is nothing nearly as good as East Easy Rider, Leperskin, I Come From Another Planet Baby, Try Try Try or even Fear Loves This Place.
The total time for both discs is only 56:46. There is no reason why this music cannot be on one CD. If new to Julian H Cope, start with Peggy Suicide instead. Then try Interpreter or Jehovahkill. [DW]

Julian Cope The Heathan Is Back In Top Form !,
By
This review is from: You Gotta Problem With Me (Audio CD)
In recent years Julian Cope has had a few good albums like "Dark Orgasm" and a few that are too loud and out of control "Brain Donor". "You Gotta Problem With Me" will entice Cope fans that enjoyed "20 Mothers", "Peggy Suicide" and "Interpreter". The 2CD set is creative, captivating and Julian Cope's fine vocals are eclectic and he plays several instruments. His rants against all organized religions are somewhat offensive but he is a diehard Heathan who respects the Pre Monotheistic Gods. Julian Cope is an admanant advocate of female supremacy, Mother Earth, ecology and vegetarianism. He's a too far out Druid but this CD is a wonderful gem and a return to top musical form for St. Julian. No bad or subpar songs.

I gotta problem...,

This review is from: You Gotta Problem With Me (Audio CD)
As the earlier review suggested, Cope when he's accessible is brilliant, 'Peggy Suicide', 'Interperter' and '20 Mothers'. Sometimes, especially with 'Brain Donor', it's a lot harder, if not impossible, to listen to. An 'Audience with the Cope' grows on you. I just bought this album and there were a few songs that I feel that will grow on me, but nothing with the bare essential and directness that 'Autogeddon' or 'Jehovahkill'. I'm definitely going to give this albums more of a try, but if you're new to Cope, try the above. I also recommend with the highest rating to purchase his "Rite" sequences, especially Rite and "Rite 2." Of course I'll buy his material, and wait for another more accessible album. It will happen.
