G.I. at their peak,

This truly is G.I.'s best work, and I put it among a very select group of albums that had a profound impact on my life. I was 18 when it was released and had just graduated high school.
I have to admit, I'd been making myself deaf on hardcore at the time and this album confused me at first. After repeated listens, however, I found myself drawn to its mix of punk and (mostly) mid-tempo rock. G.I. had never displayed this sort of songwriting or musicianship before, and they haven't since. I'm happy to say, after a recent listen in 2011, the album still holds up. It's a shame that it's now out-of-print, though, and can only be gotten as part of 'Complete History,' or through eBay. Still, I'm lucky enough to have several copies of the album on CD and vinyl. You can bet this will be included in my sons' musical education once they're old enough.

The Definitive G.I.,
By "ackmoo" (Beverly Hills, CA United States) - See all my reviews

this is quite simply government issue's best album. man in a trap, jaded eyes, young love, hole in the scene... i mean the hits just don't stop. bands like g.i., naked raygun, scream, and rites of spring were true originals, pointing to a new direction for punk rock during the height of the straight-edge hard-core era.
