2.0 out of 5 stars Save your ca$h money..., November 9, 2006
This review is from: You Had Me at Hello (Audio CD)
I bought this cd thinking I was going to get early Bury Your Dead material that I had never heard before. I was quite wrong.
Almost everything on this disc is early versions of what shows up on Cover Your Tracks.
The quality is not as good and the musicianship is a bit lacking as well.

This would make a great demo but it's not worth more than $10.00.

I should have bought the live CD instead!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, June 10, 2003
This review is from: You Had Me at Hello (Audio CD)
This CD is nice, heavy and just downright brutal! The mosh never ends. If you like some good tough guy hardcore with killer breakdowns get this album. Only critique is the lyrics. They are a bit cheezy and too much swearing for my taste.

Overall very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars hear where it started for these guys, May 26, 2005
This review is from: You Had Me at Hello (Audio CD)
We travel back a bit with a re-issue of BURY YOUR DEAD'S debut release, "You Had Me At Hello", courtesy of Eulogy Recordings. If you read the review of their 2004 Victory Records release, "Cover Your Tracks" then you are aware of how impressive their music was and what we have here in their debut is just an extension of that even though we are backtracking a little. When you compare the two albums you can hear some of the changes they made to their metallic hardcore sound. Specifically within the clarity and creativity with regards to their teeth shattering, hardcore banging breakdowns. "You Had Me At Hello" displays their earlier stages of destruction and it is no less grand than their "Cover Your Tracks" album, albeit slightly more raw and rudimentary. This is not say it doesn't have all the resounding qualities as their Victory release but the differences are still there and they tended to communicate a thoughtful approach to improving their overall sound without swaying away from what makes their vibe so unique. This is crushing metal infused hardcore in the most idyllic of ways similar to HATEBREED and even a smattering of 100 DEMONS except they have tuned their sound in a way that might remind some of CROWBAR. Their thoroughly deepened sound is at the very bottom of the base scale and the double bass work is unbelievably refined. Vocally, the frayed atonal vocals are indubitably aggressive with little or no reprieve on the horizon while the guitars viciously attack your ears with severe chugging and heart-stopping breaks. When you want music that is relentless, charismatic and has a heart of a lion, look no further-BURY YOUR DEAD is the answer. Give props to Eulogy for re-issuing this one. It was a smart move on their part.
