4.0 out of 5 stars A Labor of Love, February 17, 2003

This review is from: For You (Audio CD)
The song that attracted me to this CD was "Ascension" and here I am still listening to it -- I bought it back in 1999.

This is one of the most beautiful albums in my collection. Forget the fact that many of my other CDs have been tossed aside in favor of this one (my listening time is limited as is that of most people). Forget the fact that I'm told all the songs on the album are "standards" or "covers" of other artists. I know this...this man can play some seriously smooth tenor sax!

For Kirk, I can imagine that part of the joy of doing this album was picking and choosing each tune and then executing them with a funkiness that must be heard and absorbed, not analyzed. Playing with Kirk are some absolutely fabulous musicians such as Gregg Karukas on keyboards and drums, Ricky Lawson on drums, Paul Jackson Jr on guitar, Peter White on Spanish Guitar and Alex Al on Fender bass. The product of all the musicians appearing on this CD makes for some memorable songs. From "Anytime" to "Goin in Circles", the reality for the listener will be songs that will never leave your consciousness.

5.0 out of 5 stars All I Do is Listen to this c.d., January 23, 2000
This review is from: For You (Audio CD)
This man can play a horn can't he? I loved this c.d. from start to finish! I wasn't a real big jazz fan, but now that I heard this I am hooked! This c.d is so great and it calms you when your uptight! From ballads like Brain McKnights Anytime and Whitney Houstons Lover for life your nerves will surely be calmed to a T! There's also Janet Jacksons That's the Way Love Goes and the great Stevie Wonders All I do that will keep you on your feet! IT's a great c.d. for a day at home or in the car or even while your cleaning up! Just bump that baby in your c.d. players and let it play all the way through! Believe me you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding CD - a must-own jazz disc, December 23, 1999
This review is from: For You (Audio CD)
I really enjoy sax players like Dave Koz and Najee but this CD, it is truly head-and-shoulders above the rest. This CD is a classic - like some of the other reviewers here I listen to this CD as often as possible. It's that good!

Where have Kirk been all of my life? It seems as though he just rose to stardom. I'm buying everything kirk recordes. My wife is a school principal and I teach communication skills for General Motors. The first thing we do when we come home from work is play kirk's CD.There is no better smooth jazz from anyone. My soul, emotions, and spirit responds to his majestic ruthem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply astounding, you keep singing along, November 14, 2001
This review is from: For You (Audio CD)
I first heard this album while visiting a Zambian friend of mine Eustace. I could not help but ask who the artist was and I straight went and bought it and wrote on the cover "A tribute to Eustace" for sure each time I play it I am reminded of him. For anyone that has heard the original songs you cannot help but continuously hum. This is a kind of album you can play 365 days without feeling bored. A friend of mine Muleya heard it play in my apartment and she fell in love with it and bought it. Everytime she sends me an e mail she is always saying she is playing this cd in her office. You cannot blame her because all the songs are simply juicy. I do like his later religious albums but Kirk make another one for us with old tunes performed the jazzy way. I have listened to Alexander Zonjic's new cd and little doubt your work is very distinct in this cd too. I think you are one of the greatest saxophone players of our time.

This has to be one of the nicest Contemporary Smooth Jazz CD's ever created. The ENTIRE CD is nice. His remake of Anytime and Ascension are my personal favorites. If you don't like it, let me know and I'll buy yours!!!
