When You Knew Better...You Did Better..., August 26, 2009
This review is from: You Know Better (Paperback)
"You Know Better," by author B. Lisa, will grab the reader from page one with its opening line, "Houston, we have a problem." Typically, drama is associated with this opening line and the book does not disappoint - it is filled with plenty of drama! The story centers around four main characters - Autumn Storm and her boyfriend, pretty boy Chance Carter, a self-absorbed player with his own agenda; Penny Culpepper, Autumn's classy and beautiful best friend who does not "mince" her words and offers tough love advice for Autumn although she has her own relationship issues to deal with; and last but not least, Marquez Wilson, Autumn's high school first love who shows up and shakes things up in Autumn's world. Autumn and Chance are involved a rocky, two-year relationship. Both are beautiful, sexy, and professional, with mad-chemistry in the bedroom. However, trust is a huge issue in their relationship due to Chance's habitual habits of infidelity. Autumn continues to forgive Chance over and over again and is miserable. I found myself wanting to shake some sense in Autumn - hoping she would "get it together" - however, her behavior is real - she is a woman going through relationship issues. Enough said! Maya Angelou has a saying, "You did what you knew how to do, and when you knew better, you did better." The characters in the book, did better when they knew better and often, they knew better in the first place and simply did worse. Author B. Lisa's novel is not "predictable" and "cute" with a story wrapped in a little neat bow with unrealistic expectations. Her novel is graphic and real, filled with a number of steamy love scenes and an equal amount of twists and turns to keep the reader entertained. I would like to add that the book will need major re-editing. With future re-editing, this book has great potential! I wish author B. Lisa much success! AAMBC Book Reviews, January 9, 2010
This review is from: You Know Better (Paperback)
B. Lisa definitely has her way with words and she is a profound writer. Now with the characters, I have a problem-although the sexual scene was always hot between Autumn and Chance. I had a serious problem with the mind of Autumn, was she crazy or what? The sighs were all there of his careless infidelities. Autumn and Chance are involved a crazy and unstable two-year relationship. Why does Autumn continue to forgive Chance over and over again? I thoroughly like the contrasted between Autumn and Penny. Penny, a more charismatic individual- is hesitant about letting her guards down and giving into love but she does. Chapter 28-the Wedding of Autumn and Marquaez. Girl this was the bomb. I just knew that things were getting better for Autumn but Chance came to the wedding and stirred up everything. That man was absolutely crazy! He messed up a beautiful day and to have all of the those guest waiting. B. Lisa is an excellent writer! I will definitely read more of her work soon. G. Torbert AAMBC Book Reviewer

In the novel "You Know Better", follow the lives of four individuals dealing with lies, deceit, and infidelity in their friendships and relationships. First up is Autumn. Autumn is a drop dead gorgeous, Assistant Director of Information Systems at LaSalle National Bank. Autumn could have any man she want on and off her job but, she choose to stay with her current man, Chance, in hope that someday he will change his promiscuous ways to be a faithful man to her. However, Chance does not see his self settling down no time soon. Scarred by his past love affair, the only person Chance will ever love and commit to is HIMSELF. To Chance, women are nothing more than play things that he can easily send to "Church" with his magnificent skills in the bedroom. Fed up with Chance's lies and betrayal, Autumn sets out to see if the grass is truly greener on the other side, and whether or not Chance is worthy of her love. Right when Autumn decides to see what else is out there for her, Marquez Wilson shows up. According to Autumn, her high school sweetheart could have not chosen a better time to show up. Giving that Marquez is single and ready to make right what happen to their relationship so long ago, Autumn decides to give him a chance at winning her heart back but, the road will be bumpy along the way. On the other hand, rooting for Autumn to find happiness and love is her best friend Imarnie aka "Penny". Penny has told Autumn time and time again to drop Chance like a bad habit and move on with someone who will treat her with the respect she deserves. Yet, Penny has some trouble of her own with boyfriend Devin. She is afraid to let Devin into her heart because of how she has seen men mistreat her sister and friend. After a long conversation that revealed to her the sincerity in Devin's love, Penny finally relaxes, and gives her heart to Devin. But, the question is will their love continue forever till the end of time, or will it succumb to a tragedy that affects everyone, not just them? B. Lisa is an up and coming author out of Chicago, who truly showed her pen skills in this novel. From start to finish, I could not put this book down! She did her thing with the characters and story line, making you really visualize what was going on in the story. The book speaks for itself, if you haven't cop this hot novel yet, then you should!
