Easy like Sunday morning,

For her third album, following the success of "Blue" in 1996, and "Unchained Melody: The Early Years", LeAnn Rimes called for a little divine intervention and came up with "Inspirational Songs".
This collection is mixed with trusted favorites, old chestnuts, timeless gospel, and a couple of doses of American patriotism. While it certainly wasn't a stretch for the talented youngster, it sold well, extending her seasons in the sun, and paved the way for her future success. Who would have believed that the girl who sweetly sang the excellent version of "Amazing Grace" on this album would later sing in a bar called "Coyote Ugly" and become a "Twisted Angel" (2002) with more Billboard awards than she has fingers. While not my favorite LeAnn Rimes album, this one is fine for a little light listening while doing the Sunday chores. Amanda Richards, January 10, 2005

Beautiful songs, heavenly voice!,

Leann Rimes made this album as a tribute to God for giving her such a musical gift and her parents for their love and support. What a tribute! Her choice of songs is indeed inspirational and her performance is exquisite. "Ten Thousand Angels Cried" has never been delivered with such passion and power! This was the first time I had heard "Bridge Over Troubled Water" sung by anyone other than Art Garfunkel, and it more than holds its own against his. I was also blown away by her a cappella rendition of the national anthem, which surpasses Whitney Houston's Super Bowl cut. Those who whined about this album's content make me laugh. What part of "inspirational songs" did they not understand? Did they even bother to read past her name and check the song titles (or the ALBUM title)? Thank you, LeAnn. You gave us all a gift with this release.

How Could I Live Without LeAnn Rimes?,
By Reijo Piippula "Rekko" (Turku, Finland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs (Audio CD)
This is such a great LeAnn Rimes' album! She has a very beautiful voice and just perfect for these gospel songs. These songs are that kind of you could sing in church. LeAnn Rimes sings with emotion. The song "You Light up My Life" is a great opener and there is very good songs like "The Rose", "Bridge over Troubled Waters" etc. There's no bad song in this album. However, the album has only a few excellent songs, rest of the songs are good but not excellent. I like the lyrics very much but there's something missing. Maybe it is that these songs are covers. However, a great extra for my LeAnn Rimes collection.

The songs on this CD were beautifully put together. I liked the combination of spiritual and patriotic music. It has extremely both uplifting and soul-searching songs. It's the best CD's I've purchased in a long time and I'd definately recommend it for anyone's music library.

Talk about a powerful voice! LeAnn Rimes sure knows how to sing those beautiful songs with her beautiful sweet voice. She sings "The Rose" like an angel. "How Do I Live" has become my favorite song over the year because it has so much meaning to it. It can help you through a lot. It's a cd I wouldn't want to miss! I would suggest anyone to get it!

I cannot believe LeAnn was only 13 when this CD was released! I got this for my dad as a Christmas present a few years ago because it had a lot of great songs we all know and love. In addition it also included an extended version of the hit that crossed her over into pop, the Diane Warren-penned "How Do I Live" (originally sung by Trisha Yerwood). Even though this album isn't original in terms of creativity from Ms Rimes and the production team, it's good just to listen and appreciate the powerful voice she has. Fans of Simon and Garfunkle might be annoyed but her cover of "Bridge over Troubled Water" but I think it is just astounding, and not to mention the flawless remake of Bette Mitler's "The Rose." Overall, I'd reccomend "You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs" to fans of Ms Rimes and adult contemporary in general. It's a good collection and will have you wanting to get more albums from this wonderful & gifted country singer.

I never tire of this one!,
This review is from: You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs (Audio CD)
Leann is blessed with such a beautiful voice and she certainly shows it off on this CD. Her versions of "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Amazing Grace", both done a cappella, send shivers up my spine. I have played "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" over and over, and it never fails to move me. Hearing her sing "Clinging to a Saving Hand" always bring forth visions of a small, country church. If I had to choose only one of my CD's to keep, it would be this one.

A change of direction is warranted...,

Granted this young woman displayed a great set of pipes on the single "Blue." But who is responsible for the sappy song selection and over-the-top production that runs throughout this nauseating disc? UGGHH!!!

high school talent show stuff,

LeAnn Rimes has an undeniable gift of a voice -- big, bold, and expressive -- but what or who made her think she should release an album like this? This collection of covers and others reminds me of high school talent shows and pageant talent competitions.

My favorite songs are "You Light Up My Life", "I Believe", "The Rose", "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" and "How Do I Live". And don't forget our "Amazing Grace", "God Bless America" and "National Anthem". A mixture of Pop, Country and inspirational songs, I like it very much.
