This is by far, the best 'Rock' album to come out in the last 3 years. This has all the vibe of Guns-N-Roses circa 1987. Josh Todd is a rock star with presence (physical & vocal) for miles. That being said, you throw in a young bunch of modern metal groove masters, and the result is total genius. If you aren't really that fond of Buckcherry, don't let that deter you...you should give this album a chance.

This cd is pretty well put togther I have to say.
If you like Buckcherry, well ,too bad, its a lot heavier then them, and, I like it. (#1 mind infection) Great way to kick of the cd.(#2 broken) kicks you in the face.(#4 flowers and cages) great song. (#5 shine) ok. I like this song but, I think creed did this song. (the guitar work sounds like it.)(#7 blast) Great song. If your going to kick someone ass, play this song. Those are the best songs on the cd. The other ones are good but, not as strong as the ones I listed. Over all great cd. I almost wish that buckcherry didn't get back together again. The Josh Todd band helped Mr.Todd out alot on this cd even though his voice is still strong.Peace.

I love love love Buckcherry. It was so great that Josh Todd was going to put something out after they broke up. But, I have to say...This album is just good. The band does not fit the vocal talent of Josh Todd himself. I think he chose a band to young and inexperienced. There is not the variety you get when listening to Buckcherry. Sooooo glad Buckcherry got back together. Anyone who really likes this album will LOVE any of the Buckcherry albums: Buckcherry, Time Bomb, and 15.... They're in the studio recording the fourth one!!!!

This album is not Buckcherry but still is very good. It still delivers that true rock sound with Josh Todd's vocials. If you doubt Josh Todd just take this into consideration SLASH noticed him becasue around the time of this album Josh and Keith alomst became members of Velvet Revolver.

Short version: Josh Todd's "You Made Me" is one of my favorite rock albums of all time. I loaned my copy to a friend and after one listen, he bought the disc as well. "It's still rocking my ass off," he told me a full month later. Don't miss this one!
Long version: I bought and loved the first two Buckcherry albums - and was bitterly disappointed upon hearing that the band had split. So news of Josh Todd's solo album, though it didn't reach me until summer 2005, was music to my ears. Turns out, I hadn't heard anything yet. "You Made Me" has a harder edge than the first two Buckcherry albums, and the band behind Josh was tight. Every song on the record is a keeper, especially if you love pure, unadulterated, raucous rock 'n' roll. The louder and dirtier, the better. There's just something about Todd's vocals - he can scream with the best of them, but has a great range and can be very melodic. It's really the perfect rock 'n' roll voice, and the man puts it to great use in straight-ahead rockers and emotive power ballads (I think there's really only one on this album) alike. To sum, this is rock that rocks. Some of the best available today. Do yourself a favor and support Josh Todd - the music world would be a much less interesting place without him. P.S. Buckcherry's back together and I saw their show in Madison, Wisconsin last night - awesome! Looking forward to many more shows - and more albums - ahead!

What is the deal with all these negative reviews? Who are the people buying -- and disliking -- this album? Josh Todd should be an absolute mega-star. He is the lowdown dirty real deal for rock n' roll. The thing is produced so hot, clean and tight. The guitars chug, riff and rock. Todd blasts off like a fire-breathing god and in theses trying, conservative times, he's a wasted, rocking, torn-up burnt-out friend's pad before the big party later on all by his lonesome. And I do mean lonesome, because this great slab of sonic r 'n' r, for the most part, fell on deaf ears. In a better, less exhausted but still crumbling world -- say the 1970s -- this is the sound of depraved lords. Get your rock on, kids. This is one of the ones.

After two top-notch albums fronting the blues-based hard rock outfit Buckcherry, Josh Todd has released the ideal solo album: "You Made Me" is as good as - yet substantially different from - his previous work.
"You Made Me" drops many elements of Buckcherry's signature sound. Gone are the guitar solos, blues influences and love, sex and drug themes, replaced by a modern-rock/metal guitar style and dark lyrics. The only constant is Todd's intense, passionate vocal performance. As was the case with Buckcherry, the sound is easily describable, yet comparable to no one other act. The members of Todd's backing band are previously unheard-of - he answered a random "Singer Wanted" ad, listened to part of a rehearsal from outside and joined the group, he's said in interviews - but they perform competently, wisely laying a firm, no-frills hard rock foundation for the group's star. For a small record label and no-name producer, the recording comes across clear, full and alive. The snare drum sound is a bit weak and unfocused, but this is unnoticeable to the casual listener. One standout track is "Flowers and Cages." Starting with an innovative, harmonized metal riff, followed by Todd screaming "The battle has just begun!" the song is heavy and emotional. Another notable selection is "Shine," soundtrack to the band's first and hopelessly uninventive video. It is a fairly standard modern rock track (uncharacteristic for Todd), in the vein of Creed but with Todd's trademark vocal style. The melody is catchy and the atmosphere is upbeat, providing relief from the darker themes of the rest of the album. Other songs worth skipping to include the testosterone-fueled rockers "Blast" and "Wasted," the sensitive "Afraid" and the domestic violence-themed "Burn." However, the album listens beautifully straight through, with very few weak spots. One such unfortunate track, the piano ballad "Lovely Bones," closes the album. It is a solid, enjoyable effort, but it cannot compare to Buckcherry lighter-wavers like "For the Movies" and "You." On balance, "You Made Me" is a must-buy for fans of hard rock, heavy metal or Josh Todd's vocal work with Buckcherry. It is consistently innovative, energetic and catchy.

It seems as if the first Buckcherry album was more well liked amongst fans as oppossed to their second album, Time Bomb, but Josh has taken the next step and really upped the ante for "You Made Me".
Mind Infection is the opening track and immediately you know the boys are prepared to play hard. Mike Hewitt and Jesse Logan play guitars and although they are seemingly unheard of in the industry, they can play! Listening to Mind Infection it's obvious this band is a lot heavier than Buckcherry ever was and Josh's voice just keeps getting better and better. After the conclussion of Mind Infection, it's almost like you doubt the album can get much better but - it does! The second track Broken hit me straight away with great, catchy lyrics that also make you think. "Open up yourself, open says me (sounds like "open sesame", obviously a clever play on words), stuck in side yourself (sounds like "your shell") til you can't breathe" is the bridge and again, Josh's voice just blows you away! 13 tracks fill this album to the brim, none of them are short songs and all of which are filled with sensational guitar work, hammering beats and absolutely mind-blowing vocals. Being a fan of Buckcherry myself i thought I may have been just a little biased so i recorded a tape mixed with Buckcherry, VR, GN'R, Josh Todd, Snakepit and a whole lot of other stuff and handed it out to friends. All of them came back asking who the hell Josh Todd is and where they can buy his CD's. I can't stress to anyone enough just how good this album is and I recommend it to anyone and everyone. Just do yourself a big favor and at least download a song or two to sample it. But believe me, the album is fantastic from start to finish. Tracks: Mind Infection - 5 stars. Broken - 5 stars. The Walls - 4 stars. Flowers and Cages - 4 1/2 stars. Shine - 4 1/2 stars. Afraid - 5 stars. Blast - 4 stars. Burn - 4 stars. Circles - 4 stars. Straight Jacket - 5 stars. Slave - 4 stars. Wasted - 3 stars. Lovely Bones - 5 stars. Overall - 5 stars without a doubt. |
