FINALLY a record for the rest of us!,
By Bud Fox (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Made Me (Audio CD)
While all these garage rock bands with their greasy hair that no one really cares about keep getting their faces on MTV and in magazines, Josh Todd has the guts to go out and make an honest rock record with some pimpley ass kids he found in a newspaper ad. One thing you can say about Josh Todd is that he does exactly as he feels and never listens to anybody - the esscence of Rock and Roll if you ask me! This record rules and makes me hope that some of the other so called rock bands out there take a shower!!!!

Solid Work,

I respect Josh Todd. He does his own thing. When his former Buckcherry bandmates (with exception of guitarist Keith Nelson) leave the band, he moves on. When corporate America doesn't want to put out his record, he starts his own label. In fact, the story of the band has it that Todd was the one who answered a local ad for a band looking for a lead singer. The music is great, anyone who likes hard rock will like this. The production is clean and crisp. The lyrics, well, are a slightly different Todd. Less sex and drugs More more pain and venting. And that's what music is all about. Cathartic. Powerful. No it's not Buckcherry. And it shouldn't be. After all, do you really want more of the same? Change is good. So is this album.

A Step Backward,
By Mike (Fairfax, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Made Me (Audio CD)
It's always sad when a talented artist goes in the wrong direction. Joshua Todd and Buckcherry had a good thing going...a solid band that had real talent, real chops, and really good tunes. Citing artistic exploration, Todd has since left Buckcherry to explore other musical areas. Unfortunately, the blues inflected hard rock chemistry is gone, and it's more of a radio-friendly nu-metal sound now. Just look at the "Shine" video...it's nu-metal. Drummer bouncing around on his stool (w/no rhythm whatsoever) like he's gonna fall off, and the guitarists and bassist doing this up/down rhytmic kinda thing. Gimme a break, this could be Creed or some other nu-metal band: no guitar work or leads whatsoever, just straight, basic rhythm (cookie-cutter NU-METAL!!! to those of you who haven't caught on yet). And to all of you out there who've reviewed this and said it was good, that's typical, don't feel bad. Most people who buy an album think it's classic at first, and after a few weeks realize what crap it is. Bring back Buckcherry!!
