Book Description

October 10, 2006 3 - 7 years
"Hey, Baby! Look at you, looking at me, looking at you looking at me," says the parent narrator of this interactive book that helps new parents interact with babies as young as two months. Big close-up photographs illustrate each phrase--"waving at me, waving at you, waving at me" and so on through smiling, feeding, hugging, splashing, peeking, all the things babies do. Lynn Reiser's minimal text promotes early language development while it helps cement the bond between parent and baby. Penny Gentieu's adorable photographs of real babies and their parents portray the warmth of that bond.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 1–The beautiful photographs of adorable babies from diverse backgrounds and their parents are what stand out in this simple picture book. Each photo features a simple interaction between parent and child, such as playing peek-a-boo or hugging. The crisp, color close-ups clearly show the children's expressions and actions. The illustrations are enhanced by bold background colors that are seamlessly coordinated with the clothing. The sparse text can be a little confusing, and it's tricky to get the right flow when reading aloud. Mmmm, baby, hug me, hugging you, hugging me, hugging you! or Wow, baby! Look at you, waving at me, waving at you, waving at me. This minor weakness can be overlooked as the pictures are so engaging that children will insist on looking at them time and again.–Catherine Callegari, Gay-Kimball Library, Troy, NH

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book November 10, 2006
Format:Hardcover
Ooooh baby, is this a fun book. Five beautiful children are photographed by Penny Gentieu as they interact with their parents. The focus of each photo is the joy-filled face of a child. The children are shown eating, splashing, playing and most importantly, looking into their parents' eyes. The background of each photo is pure color, orange, green, yellow, blue and purple which matches the clothing of the baby and parent. Gentieu's photos glow.

Hey, baby!

Look at you, looking at me,

looking at you, looking at me.

This would be a terrific baby gift or a nice present for big brothers and sisters-to-be. Who doesn't love looking at pictures of precious children? Just imagine holding this book in your lap with a little one tucked in beside you. Children (and babies) love looking at faces.

Oh Baby, look at me reading with you, look at you reading with me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for infants and pre-toddlers November 12, 2006
Format:Hardcover
A wonderful picturebook for pretoddlers, filled with cheery pictures of parents and little babies interacting -- smiling, waving, taking baths, playing peekaboo -- with plenty of love and affection oozing from each frame. Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of photographic picturebooks, but this is an exception to the rule. Penny Gentieu, a well-known commercial photographer, has a nice touch, and the interactive, contextual aspect of the pictures, with babies in the middle of their first (and most intense) social relationships, should draw the littlest readers in... The text is pretty basic, but if you're in the newborn/infant headspace, it'll be absolutely perfect. Nice one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby's favorite book June 18, 2012
By joffler
Format:Hardcover
Yep, it's her favorite one. The photos inside are delightful, not just to her eyes but to ours as well. Simple photos of parents and children sharing the joys of everyday play amid beautiful, vibrant single-color backgrounds. I know she loves the expressions on the babies' faces, as do we. It's a simple book, a quick read but a delight through and through. This one is going in the keepsake box.
