Diversity Depicted Delightfully,
By DastardlyMash (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You and Me: Poems of Friendship (Hardcover)
I discovered this lovely collection of poetry and fabulous illustrations several years ago, when searching for an appropriate childen's book for a baby gift for an African-American friend's new twins. All the other books seemed to have children of one specific race or animals as their main characters. I was looking for diversity, and was surprised to find such a simple concept so illusive. Then I found "You and Me." Salley Mavor really depicts diversity delightfully throughout this book. She beautifully crafts recognizably diverse human faces, showing people of many colors and ages enjoying themselves together. The poetry would stand alone as a top-notch collection of poems about friendship; the intricately-sewn and sculpted fabric illustrations are worthy of hours of scrutiny.
I wish the publisher would re-release this wonderful book! |
